    Can you generalise some more.

There is a law that restricts kids in front seats under a certain age unless its a Utility where there is no option and they are now fitted with child safety anchor point.
    I know because I have A; A child B: A ute
Just in case people thought I made this one up too!

Part 16 Rule 267–2 NSW rule: child restraints prohibited on front seats fitted with airbags (cf RRR, cl 46)

    (1) The driver of a motor vehicle must not drive the vehicle if:
    (a) a passenger under the age of 16 years is occupying a child restraint in a front seat position of the vehicle, and
    (b) an airbag fitted to the vehicle is designed to deploy in that seat position.

    Maximum penalty: 20 penalty units.

    Road Rules 2008
Current version for 11 September 2009 to date (accessed 5 November 2009 at 15:10) NSW Legislation

Just in case people were concerned that because: A They have a child & B they drive a Ute:

266 Wearing of seatbelts by passengers under 16 years old

    (1) The driver of a motor vehicle (except a bus or motor bike) that is moving, or is stationary but not parked, must ensure that this rule is complied with for each passenger in or on the vehicle who is under 16 years old.
    <snip>
    (3) If the passenger is under 1 year old, and the motor vehicle has 2 or more rows of seats, he or she must not be in the front row of seats.

NB: This all relates to NSW Regulations which are not necessarily the same as the Australian Road Rules, particularly Rule 266 (5) of the Australian Road Rules which does not exist in the current (NSW) Road Rules.

Yeah!! Anybody who leaves a child or an animal in their car while they duck into a shop/hotel/casino for "five" minutes deserves to have EVERY window in their car smashed by police. As we, who are sensible well know heat builds up in a vehicle parked in the sun very quickly. I understand there can be difficulties when a parent fills up at a service station and ducks in to pay for it. But the vehicle is usually in the shade under the service station's awning. Maybe other members have other ideas but an adult who leaves a child/animal in a car unattended should be dealt with the full force of the law.!!!

I was referring to how it happens often.

It happens sure but so do death by fire ants.

Leaving kids on their own or animals is totally unacceptable, I 100% agree.

Just the frequency is what had me thinking.

Kind of like saying Landrovers are unreliable!

Frequently is such a relative term... And I don't just mean that the relatives are in the pub or casino.

It is just that the casino ones are the ones that make it to the media and also are the ones that have come to emergency departments where I was working.
