Driving is dangerous as most things in life are. The risks are higher with driving so therefore you need to take that into account.

If alcohol affects you more than the next person then you should choose to drive sober.

I personally won't drive for long periods and won't do 100s of km in a day because I get tired and start to lose concentration.

But I can drive quite ok after having a beer with dinner.

Social Responsibility regarding driving can be promoted by providing with appropriate training about how cars work, how dangerous they can be, and what factors can affect you and your car.

For example a lot of drivers don't know the difference between understeer and oversteer or how to recover from either! I watched a women a few weeks ago during a storm go into a roundabout too fast and understeer on the way out, jumping over the culvert and come to a stop in a garden bed.

I pulled over to see if she was ok (she was only badly shaken). She wanted to know why her car hadn't changed direction when she turned the wheel!
I'd rather drive near a competent driver who has had a beer or two, than one of these type of drivers.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    do you truly believe that?

do you know why Qld Transport arent interested in introducing yearly inspections? because it wouldnt do anything more than cost people money, and theres enough dodgy roadworthy inspectors now

a few months ago i had the opportunity to remove an aftermarket, WA government specified immobiliser system that had been fitted to a vehicle (legislation in WA requires all cars that are sold second hand to have immobilisers fitted if they arent so equipped from the factory)

time for me to bypass the immobiliser and get the car started? <3 minutes
time for me to remove the immobiliser completely and make everything appear normal? <15 minutes

and this is an immobiliser system fitted as part of a government requirement, much the same as your suggested alcohol interlock

god i love the lunatic fringe who want to implement controls instead of enforcing responsibility

What's to stop another person or some type of air pump being used to activate the alcolock?

Truck drivers operate on zero blood alcohol levels for about 10 years now, can anyone produce statistics for the reduction in truck only, truck other vehicle, truck train crashes where alcohol been a factor pre zero limit and post zero limit.

While we are on the subject can we have the same for driver fatigue seeing Truck drivers required to have 30 minute break every 5 hours of driving time

Finally statistics for Truck Drivers involved in accidents whilst under influence of performance enhancing drugs.

From what l read repeat drink driver offenders, even those invovled where they have caused fatalities continue to offend, ven those who have had life driving license bans imposed.

So the limit is irrelevant for the worst offenders who also happen to make a large percentage of the caught offenders, so the only solution is removal of vehicles from their possession via destruction if caught re-offending and after first offence manadatory udertaking of education and rehabilitation and being compelled to go to AA meetings.

Impounding of cars has shown most offenders leave the car in the police pound as its cheaper to buy a $3000 car then pay fines and storage costs, so rather than impound cars destroy them unless owner pays for bond to recover them.

    Sorry, WRONG ! ! !

I remain a law abiding citizen

    - I really can't see the difference between having a beer and then jumping in the car to drive (legal) or having a beer whilst actually driving (also legal).

It is legal to have an open canister of alcohol in the car in Vic as far as I'm aware, it is a chargeable offence to consume from it, or any other form of drink/food/GPS blah blah, call the officer nasty derogotory terms enough and you'll find outnot a smart idea by the way

Either way, its great to jump on the high horse in regards to people who have a beer or 2 while driving, but just make sure you don't, speed....talk on the phone.....drive fatigued......drive angry.....drive with any emotional instability, look out the window at anything.....talk to your passengers.............

Sure another person could blow into the alcolock (unless linked to fingerprint or iris reader which are both cheaply available). An airpump or canister of compressed air would also probably work. No system is perfect.
I think the alcolock is a better solution than destroying vehicle as advocated below.

As somene who lives on the western side of our wonderful State, how often/what time of day/week do you do this? Just want to know so I can stay off the road, or alternatively, if I am working, I can stock the ambulance at the ready!!

alcohol is going to have an affect on your driving skill's even if your under the legal limit .

feel sorry for the police, ambo,s or people from medical field dealing with these super hero clowns every day!
ohh maybe im total wrong , the law says im under the limit so that makes it all ok to jump behind the wheel, under the limit so my driving skills will not have changed.
A question to those who do have a drink and drive - Are your driving skills the same after a couple of drinks(even if under b.a.l)?
