At long last the winch is in

Yep, the winch is finally in and done and I just got the WOF so it's legal too.

    Here's some pic's.

From the front. Foreshortening makes it look bigger than it is.

From the top, not too much poking out the front so pedestrians need not be afraid.

Just some branding for Thomas The bash plate is 3mm steel.

View of the PTO drive shaft. I needed two new universals, a new length of shaft, and two new cushion bearing blocks to get it all connected up right.

View towards the front of the shaft.

And from the driver's side. Note I had to take off the steering damper until I can figure out where to put it. Possibly rotate the arm 90ยบ towards the back and attach the shockie to an extension off the chassis. Need to put the front end into extreme articulation to find out what the actual distances are between thing first.

Had to make up a handle for the PTO selector. The black knob is from a Santana.

Thanks Slunnie for making it possible

Very neat, I had a stage 1 with the same PTO. Looking at pic 2, I was going to say the selector is'nt all that accessable but in pic 1 it looks good..
Watch your fingers when using it, its unforgiving!! ( not speaking from any bad experience)

    Thanks.

It doesn't really look like it but there's actually a good inch or two in front and behind the handle. Of course one never knows until it's all used in anger

    Hi Alan,

I had no idea you too were in the process of fitting a Thomas. Great to see these old winches getting back to where they were intended.

Nice job mate and well done on the WOF. They seem to be getting tougher and more picky with vehicle additions. I am regularly asked about some of the certed work I have done to mine. I am lucky to have the choice of two WOF places with Land Rover afficiandoes [sp?] inside so I am hoping for a similar result next week when I take my truck in for WOF.

I have got my own winch project halfway finished and had to put the deck back on the truck for a job. I have the winch working out the back only at this stage. I had to use the rope off my old ramsey so am running a 24m length.

I am inspired with your pictures so will have to make time to upload some for a build thread also.

    Cheers,

    Phil

    Hi Phil,

It's certainly been a bit of a mission and of course there are always extra bits that need finishing.

Yeah. Do put up some pic's.
