Nice prawns, but I rarely eat them once they get over about 4 inches long. Far too chewy, and nowhere near as sweet.

Having worked on trawlers down here on both sides of Moreton Island, it always amazed me how the bigger the prawn, the more expensive the cost. I put it down to marketing and/or laziness and lack of skill in peeling them!

Its called the "Mine's bigger than yours facter" most of the times, but when you see how the japanese slice them thin and make prawn steaks out of them you can see why they want that size,They dont waste a single piece, amazing to see.

Andrew if your serious let me know as I will be sending some prawns to Perth for Christmas.I can send you a list of what I have and prices, but would expect you would need to get a few peolpe involved, and they would need to be picked up from Toll depot in Kewdale.I am happy to help out with any questions, but there are 3 types of prawns in 3 different sizes.
Send me a PM if you want more info.

Ean, every time I see the title of this thread I think: "Must be a picture of a couple of drunken backpackers down Mitchell Street"

As for the prawns, send me a PM of details for ordering or let me know if you pull up in Gove - though getting near the wharves is impossible nowdays

I know I was going to get fuel there but Perkins are just crazy to deal with.I was going to send you a PM and let you know but I will definately be calling in as I have some other customers in Gove..I send stuff there afew times a year, but unless you have a friend who works for Perkins and get free frieght it not cheap to send them.It will be close to end of this month, I was hoping to anchor off the boat ramp and just run them, in , in the dinghy. PM me an e-mail Address and I will get my wife to send you a list a week or so before I come in so if you know anyone else who wants some..
    Cheers Ean

Kewdale is just down the road from me. I am not a big fan of prawns, but don't mind them in a good Ceviche.

If there is interest in a group buy from the Perth/WA guys I can collect them from the depot - I would probably get some for us as well.

Can you PM me a price list please Ean?

I can see this ending up being a long complicated process, with alot of to/fro, maybe if I post something on the WA Aulroian site and get some things moving that way.I know there are a few local prawn fisheries off the WA coast so I assume prawns and seafood are generally available down there, and if people are only wanting 1 kilo each then its going to be hard, but im more than happy to try and get this happening.
Will you guys be happy with that, let me know,
    Cheers Ean.

    That sounds like a plan.

If my parents were still visiting I would take 20-30 kg no problems!!! Dad buys 20kg at a time from the Brisbane fish markets.

Prawns are available here. Prices are generally $18-25 /kg for small cooked or raw prawns at the Canning Vale fish markets - but that is close to wholesale price - the fish shops are 50-100% more than that.

Big prawns seem hard to come by though. And I think most of us here are willing to pay more for quality!
