    Bloody kids and power tools

I'm not very amused at the moment.
I got a call from the school to say my son has had an accident on the wood lathe in wood work. Ripped the skin from his fingers and hand.
Seems another student turned off the power to the lathe whilst my son was turning up some wood. When it restarted his hand got jammed and caused the injury.
So off to hospital. Lucky to only have bandages and a tetnus shot.
He could have lost his fingers or worse his hand.
Why are some kids so stupid not to forecast what their stupidity can do.

Man you really need to change your profile name....cause you sure do complain alot . As for kids...in this case was it malicious or a case of being young and inexperienced. Im sure we have all done stupid things as kids and youths....I know I have,

    Regards

This is not the 1st incident last year a girl( who has a bullying problem shoved him from behind as he was using a band saw.) So it's not funny when you kid might come home an amputee.
Unfortunately his hand is going to be sore for his part time job on frid & sat and he is an accomplished saxophonist and has a concert new week. I hope he will be able to play as this is the big one for him this year.
Oh the joys of being a father of a 14 year old

I'm still at school doing wood work, have seen some stupid things, the first one was one of my mates had a router re-arrange a few fingers

And another bad one was a student in year 10 or 11 at the time ran the band saw blade in between his fingers and almost cut his little finger off

Plus many other smaller things but they are just the serious ones...

Sounds like some of my classes back at tech, 1 clown used to throw wood chisel's into a full speed ceiling fan and another use to leave the chuck key in a metal lathe and turn it on .

Am a tech in a D and T department. My colleague and i watch our boys like hawks esp in machine work. Bandsaws are off limits to students (read ALL victorian students). We are the teachers eyes, ears and sometimes actions......

Only takes a moments stupidity for it to become serious. Have had to personally remove then put on detention 2 pupils.... caught them larking around outside of the safety zone beside the wood lathe.....shame it was only 300mm outside it tho!

I hope your son is OK and makes a full recovery.

Yeah kids and power tools, I tell them not to play with the circular saw as the blood is so hard to clean off and if left on for a while will rust the blade

Glad to hear that your son did not lose a body part.

Kris is hoping to get in to some form of medicine as a career, I wonder if the 3 hours in CAS would qualify for his work experience for next year?
