I can understand that with a short-staffed and over-stretched hospital it could happen easily. It's disgusting that it happened, but I don't think you can blame the nurses - it's the bigger issue that is disturbing.
BTW, this hospital is by all reports nearly always empty. It's main function is to provide surgical facilties for a handful of surgeons undertaking expensive elective surgery - maily lap bands.

The public hospital next door is very, very busy and understandably, mistakes do happen there from time to time.

Stats on the Royal are:-
Approximately 148 patients are admitted to the RHH each day, and on average our patients stay just under three days. Over the last year, on average:
• 432,979 Tasmanians attended one of our specialist outpatient clinics;
• More than 40,300 Tasmanians visited our Emergency Department;
• Our Department of Medical Imaging processed more than 74,000 procedures (e.g. X-rays) while our
Department of Pathology performed in excess of 1.2 million procedures;
• 800 adults were admitted to our Intensive Care Unit;
• More than 1.15 million meals were produced by our Food Services team;
• 430,000 medical records were managed;
• Our team of medical orderlies responded to 113,000 requests for assistance;
• An average of 5.99 new Tasmanians were born each day; and
• Our Communications Unit handled 50,000 enquiries each month via the main switchboard.

Stats on the Hobart Private are unknown, but it was going to be closed a couple of month ago due to lack of business.
