    Cant help you with fences,as havent done any for 30yrs,but to sort our dogs out i got a thunderbird electric fence thingy.Works on D cell batteries,doesnt take long for the dogs to learn where they are not to go.

    You actually paid money for star pickets? I thought you always got them from roadworks and building sites.

    home made wire spinner

    Hi,
    Just testing with some photos of an el cheapo wire spinner made from scraps of wood, a car axle and some old steel.
    The CU is detail of an angled cut that makes the spinner rise and fall as it rotates. This stops the thing rotating out of control.

    It has rusted up now and wont spin, but you should get the idea.

    Mate, it would be nice to see that gadjet restored and back in working condition !!
    Wouldn't take much and a shame to see it neglected, its probably a
    very nice little spinner. I'd name it, Willy.

    Down the recycling section of the local tip, $5 for as many as you can carry. Mostly steel but you can occasionally pick up a few galved ones.

    Saves paying upto $30 each for the Galved pickets.

    Now you've got me thinking. I'd been eyeing off some trailer hubs at work thinking that these on stubs may also be a good basis.

    Hey thanks for this Tote. I had to make it happen pretty quickly so just did it, but I sincerely appreciate the offer. I'm thinking that I'll have to make one of them now.

    Actually, first I'll have to fix the fence up so it presents a bit better before the relo's see it and tell me how crap my fences are!

    Hi Slunnie
    If you build one you need to build some sort of clutch mechanism into it.It needs to be easy to pull but needs to clutch as you slow down on the pull,if not it will over-run and give you an instant birdsnest.
    I would look at a GOOD working jenny closely then copy it,wouldnt try re-inventing the wheel.Havent seen one using bearings,I feel it would spin too fast!!!
    Another tip if you are doing a plain wire fence.Sit the jenny in the middle of the fence,run the wires each way to the strainer and use those gripples,they are the bees knees
    Enjoy,once you build a good fence you will want to fence veverything
