Meccano was actually made from painted steel. All pieces, of many shapes and sizes. came pre drilled with many 3/16 (I think) holes, along with 3/16 screws and nuts. A spanner and screwdriver were supplied and much like Lego, you could build almost anything, either with supplied plans or your imagination.

Much like Lego also, later kits had battery operated motors etc.

Norfolk Island is still the cheapest place around for Lego. Everytime my Auntie comes to visit I get her to bring some if she has room.

Haha Love lego. Our 7yo currently has all my old Lego, and a good collection of the new stuff He loves it.
Eldest daughters boyfriend is from Norfolk, so we'll be checking the lego out when we go!!

"Bricks" is the chinese rip off version of Lego, it's actually a perfect fit and copy of lego, and pretty good quality.

My 2yo loves the stuff too, especially building and then knocking it down and saying "Oh oh!"
