theres a couple of aspects of the troopie that are better than the deefer.
Out of the box
their economical cruise speed is higher than the deefers (assuming you think 14l/100 is economical)
the rear access is easier with the twin doors that open up all the way to the sides.
They have bigger fuel tanks which gives them longer legs than deefer.
if you get the one with side seating you can carry more people than a deefer.
the ergonomics is a personal thing, I like the setup in the landies always have always will but then again Im right next door to being made from the same cast as they used for the model to do the ergonomics in the landy.
Everywhere else the deefer doesnt even give the troopy a look in.
higher payload
better handling characteristics
fuel economy
better off road
easier to clean
better driving position (set the mirrors up right and you can see all 4 corners without moving your head)
coils all round
more useable interior space.
It's down to bang for buck for me.I can buy a defender for 50k and go anywere I need to go,Tojo you need to spend 70k and thats before suspension replacement and new seats so the troopy is 25k at least more to buy.For that you can get a really well kitted out defender and a good camper and a better vehicle in every way.Lastly about the dealer network if you break down in a modern tojo it goes on a truck, even if it can be fixed if it goes into limp mode it needs to be re-booted so it gets a lift. I know little about troopies but I am sure that you don't need as thick a hide to own a toyota as you do if you own a defender. Even if you don't have a problem and can be standing next to a broken down toyota or nissan and the shots about Land Rovers will be coming your way. Maybe it is this that makes us like the deefer that much more.
The coils, fuel economy and comfy seating (front seats only) do it for me.
Having done the simpson desert in my old mans 79 series troopy, I wouldn;t hesitate to have one for long distance touring, 6,000km's in 3 weeks, it was suprisingly comfortable, towed a Kimberely camper effortlessly and the factory seats, its an RV with buckets were quite comfortable, Its also done, the Kimberely, Canning, Simpson, Cape york before and is heading to the Kimberelys again next year......but it is a 1HD-FTE, try and find anyone thats had a fault with them, cause I certainly can;t:eek:, the new V8 on the other hand:D
I thought I should throw this in. My wife and I took a new 110 for a test run... 55Kish:eek: We looked at each other... same thoughts came to mind. The bloody seating being to close to the door and the stupid door latch that rips the good clothes:mad: And when we opened the centre console:eek:
A bit down on torque as well. At least it shouldn't break the ****y rear diff. I think these things may battle in heavy sand wile towing after a wile. Other wise are awesome with 6 spd box etc. (Helps the shortcomings of the low out put engine).
My wife's comment was the 4BD1 T 120" has more punch off the line and similar comfort other than air. Ergonomics just the same. LAND ROVER do you hear this!
The fender needs to change. I love it as a work truck but as a long distance tourer no.
We have gone around it this time for mainly this reason. The dealers have been the final insult;)
