At least it's better than the Geoffrey Edelsten wedding story that was running for a couple of months. Thank **** that's over.

Unfortunately there are some who LOVE to put crap on these publig figures. What they do in their private time is their business... but like all the magazines out there (womans day etc) the public must be buying this crap called news.

But all I can say about Woods is "One hole too many"

I guess if you are going to comment....which actually shows you do care , you need to state what you do consider "news". Some web definitions of "news"...

    • information about recent and important events; "they awaited news of the outcome"
    • information reported in a newspaper or news magazine; "the news of my death was greatly exaggerated"
    • news program: a program devoted to current events, often using interviews and commentary; "we watch the 7 o'clock news every night"
    • informal information of any kind that is not previously known to someone; "it was news to me"
    • newsworthiness: the quality of being sufficiently interesting to be reported in news bulletins; "the judge conceded the newsworthiness of the trial"; "he is no longer news in the fashion world"

So in reality.........it is news......just maybe not your type of news. Frankly...I find "news" about most sporting events about as interesting as watching grass grow. In this case you have somebody who had a squeaky clean image....a role model to many..........a sponsors dream........who has tarnished all those aspects. Yep...like it or not............that is news.

So I would disagree that the channels need to "lift" their game as they are reporting the news, all aspects to entertain and cover their demographic. It's not rocket science to work that out,

    Regards

Spot on Stevo, it's all about ratings.

Bingo ...was interesting...was watching Ray Martin on the 7pm Report the other night. A Current Affair was bought up and in a nutshell.....when they started doing stories on "what hairspray/diet etc" to use....he knew it was time to move on. Not helping was his journo mates ringing him and saying "WTF are you doing?" .

So yes......ratings is the key issue. If a program doesn't rate.............its gone. If that means combining news of a worthy nature alongside news to tickle the fancy of the dense...so be it. Hence why 7,9,10 are "commercial stations", they are there to generate huge profits for shareholders etc etc.

Plus if a B grade actor had an affair...whoopdee doo......if someone of the ilk of Tiger Woods does.............then absolutely it is news. It's like the Police Commissioner being caught drink driving............some folk.........rightly or wrongly.............have moral obligations to the general public...........as it is the general public who have played a large part of where they are today.

In the case of Tiger...............if he was an exceptional player.....without people coming to watch him play/ sponsor/ create media....he'd be just some bloke knocking about a golf course.

    Regards

We are now entering the time for them to roll out their "here's some we prepared earlier, when we weren't on holiday" articles.

    ie
    Speeding drugged truckies.
    99.9% want 4X4s banned.
