Well that just sucks my "shorts peau de le'opard"..scuse me french but am as ****ed as a fart. I envy you that you made 16 yrs...my best for want ofa better word was 8 yrs where my good mate "benzy" made 8 yrs and some **** nailed him in a car. My kids were devastasted and still talk about HIM 2+ yrs on. To be fair I now have a 2 yr old boisterous GSD from same bloodline and it helps a heap, My families thoughts are with you,

Our animal partners in life are the most loyal ,caring and faithful we can ever wish for.The time we have with them is sadly shorter than ours but the enrichment to the human existance they happily provide is the great joy of life. Each one is special! What great memories you have!
    Cheers,
    Mary

    Sorry to hear.
Good to see a farmer that actualy cares about and respects his dogs.
Ive met a few that dont deserve to own them.
May another good one come along and fill his paws.

sorry to learn of your loss mate,

The silence when they are gone was the worst thing for us when we lost our two dogs 3 years ago, and we couldnt handle it so, we went out and got another pup, the same as one of the ones we lost (Visla), and we felt guilty, but the void that the pup filled helped us heaps, and bought smiles and noise back to the house.

    chin up mate,

Thanks all, It has made a diference

The kids have been fairly good so far. I have tried to keep them, well.... all of us busy this weekend. Took the kids to Coonabarabran One Day Event today. They both rode their horses in competition and had a great day

Sad thing is I'm having trouble finding any resent pics of Reg the dog

I have no idea how I will replace him as yet.

    A pic of Reg
Reg was a Huntaway Kelpie cross. Almost human. He came here in the 93 drought and has gone out in a drought. Spent all his younger years in a truck with me so we formed a special bond from that. We have been through a lot in his time. I got married and had two kids who have grown up with Reg. That's the bit that hits hard.
He was also the best work dog I have ever had, most faithful, tough when the going got hard, Worked the yards (Backed sheep) as well as mustered in this difficult terrain here. Was a lead dog and could also force. Very much a one off.

    Rest in peace my friend

Condolences mate. When our Bailey goes (a fair way off yet - hes still a young man in dog terms) I don't know what I am going to do with mum. She will lose it.

They say the lord is our shepard, and every shepard needs a damn good dog. I'm sure Reg will do you proud on the big farm in the sky.

    Thinking of you Rangie Rover.
Had a similar thing a couple of years ago with our little mate Chloe , a Border Collie Blue Heeler Cross.
She made it to 15 years.
What helped me was knowing that she was good of heart and that wherever her spirit went she would be in good company.

Yep, know that horrible feeling to lose a dog. We had to put down Daphne, our beloved Red Cloud Kelpie on the weekend. She made it to 15yo but her arthritis was getting bad, she was going deaf and she was just starting to lose control of her bladder and bowels occasionally while she slept. She had been going slowly downhill and we had been talking about the right time for us to let her go. She was such a happy dog and seemed to copy OK.

What finally did it for us was hearing her yelping, almost screaming really at 1.30am on Thursday night when she was stuck half off and half on her bed. This coming from a dog that never complains. It broke our hearts really and we realised it was time for us to let her go as she wasn't coping any more.

So take care Rangie Rover and don't be too much in a rush to get a new dog. You will know when the right one comes along.

    Cheers,

    Cripesamighty
