Yep, it's been illegal to shoot Flying Foxes in NSW for a very long time.

Many years before I met her, my wife had purchased a Custard Apple from the Green Grocers, and absolutely hated it, never eating them again till the following happened.

In the mid 1990's I was given a stack of Custard Apple seconds [mild skin blemishes] from an Organic grower whose farm we visited on a Organic Gardening TAFE excursion, and after much persuasion my wife tried a small bit of one of these Custard Apples expecting it to be horrible like the one that she had ytried years before had been. She found this one that I gave her was terrific. See she had given up on Custard Apples because of one off tasting one, but does love Custard Apples now, she has eaten a good one.

Never quite worked out what it was that people liked about Custard Apples after I had my first Soursop.

At least they crop twice a year.

The quality of the fruit suffers, therefore they're not grown commecially on the cape.

Its only the bl**dy white cocatoos that make ours suffer!

PS - We had 3 years at Aurukun in the mid-80s and there was only ever one crop there. Climate is the same as Darwin with a truly dry, Dry which probably explains it.
