i think i killed my optima

well ive had a optima d31m for about 2 years as a second battery and the fridge always seems to be flashing the battery indicator so i went to battery world and he rekoned that im not driving enough each day and thats why it goes flat nearly every night, so i bought a ctek3600 charger and have been plugging it in at night for a few days now but the battery is still only reading 12.6 so i unplugged the fridge and just checked it before i unplugged the charger it was at 14.2 than it was 12.8 and with in 3minutes dropped to 12.6 and seemed to stay there for 20min till i plugged it back in is it likely i have stuffed the optima draining it flat most days for a few years its also used to run all our camp electrics and 4spotties

if its stuffed should i get anather optima would any other battery take this sort of punnishment

Why don't you remove the second battery (Optima) and stick it on the C-Tech charger for a couple of days, or more, if it is a Deep Cycle battery they take a fair bit of charging time to get back to max volts, I leave mine on charge the whole time I'm not using the car, sometimes for a week or more, Regards Frank.

Is the fridge on all the time if so and you run the battery flat all the time nothing will take that sort of punishment, the fridge should cut out before the battery is fully discharged but switch it off when not using it will help any battery but any good deep cycle battery will do a reasonable job. i think optima,s are over priced for what you get these days. Two years of going flat even once per week is pretty hard on a battery. I reguarly put my deep cycle AGM battery on for a week to bring the voltage back up it may help yours

You need a battery monitor safeguard device which will buzz and then disconnect the fridge at pre determined battery voltage.

There are many reports in UK about Optimas failing within 6-24 months. Odyssey batteries seem to be taking over from Optima in tha price range of batteries

    Regards
