I think it's poor policy, but so are so many others. Like people buying a 1.49 million dollar home in QLD that get the First Home Buyers grant. But where do you start...

I really think the government is to blame for the army of young single mums with babies that are now on welfare. There are virtually no adoptions any more because the government will give women a good living to have children. I'm not sure whether this is a good thing or not.

I must ease up on the grumpy pills!

A friend's near neighbour is under 25 with 4 brats to 4 different fathers. She collects 25% or so of their wages and picks up a pension while the kids run wild.

Unfortunately Guys its a classic case of "i didn't get it my day" syndrom....people always protest to the so called hand outs , but forget to remind themselves of the fact that if it were them receiving it ..there values would be somewhat comprimised......i didn't see or hear for that matter, too many people hand back that that they didn't agree with

    just my thoughts ...........

again all the best mate too you and the missus .....

    Yes, congratulations Eddie and Missus.

Yep, that's the thing. We know it's things are bad policy, but within our political system it's impossible to get something like this fixed because it means lots of votes, so we just put up with it. We took our baby bonus knowing that it went some way towards paying for the medical bills that came from it.

However some people see it as a reason to have a baby. Thing is... I kind of think that's what the government want. I think it would have been far more effective and more fair to allow couples with children to share taxable income which would encourage stay at home mothers and better parenting.

Damn it... I'm ranting again... it's the pills

i also agree, but on a more personal note, in that those of us that are unfortunate enough to have had illness causing sterility that want to have kids have to pay out of our own pocket for invitro or the likes, with no assistance whatsoever from the govt. the tought that ppl that can have children with no complications can also get a handout, whereas there are those of us that cant even have children get no asisstance really gets my goat.
to that end i shall remain childless.

just re-read my post and it sounds cold and harsh, not intended to be, just a passing comment.

And I'm not for a moment saying that young girls should be forced to give their babies away. However some time ago many of them did choose to offer their children up for adoption and there were many adoptions of locally born children in Australia. I'm sure there are lots of bad stories, but personally I know of only good ones. Childless couples that wish to adopt these days have no option but to participate in the the various international adoption programs.

I'm not really sure about this and I want to convey my utmost in respect to people that have somehow been involved in these programs.
