I used contacts for about 15 years but had to give them up as I too was getting blood vessels growing up towards the corneas due to supply oxygen.

Wait until you put one in with an eyelash or dust speak behind it. You will have absolutely no trouble getting it out again - QUICKLY

After seeing a couple of posts about contact lenses causing blood vessel growth, I am wondering what sort they were.

The current lenses I am using are designed to be left in for a month, even when sleeping! I take them out every night and I try to go for at least one day a week without wearing them at all.

I was told by the optometrist that recommended them that the new design breathes a lot better to prevent problems such as the blood vessel growth.

Jon, I couldn't get disposable lenses for several years after they became readily available due to my script. Even when they were available they were thicker than others and of course the thicker the lens the less they allowed gases to permeate. My maximum wear time was never better than about 9 hours.

Anyway technology moves on and I may well be able to get them again, but eye sight unfortunately also moves on and I've just got my first pair of multi-focal spec's. Nearly fell over at the cost of the lenses

You must be quite blind .

My current lens script is -3.5 right eye and -3.75 left eye. Left eye is slightly worse due to astigmatism. I don't have the proper lenses to correct the astigmatism, but they are available (weighted so they rotate to the correct vertical alignment).

    Not blind, just myopic

Around -5 left and -4.5 in right plus astigmatic correction in both (so the contacts used to be weighted).

I have high index lenses in my glasses to keep the weight/thickness down but every few years getting a new pair hurts the bank balance.

Just remember Left goes in Left, Right goes in Right or you walk around wondering why the world has gone strange over night

You'll work out a technique in no time and it becomes routine.

I have the same prescription as BigJon only the other way round.

It's funny how when you start out you make such a palaver and dog's breakfast out of it but as people say here, very soon you're just plonking them in and ripping them out.

I don't wear mine too much, mainly for weekends when I am outdoors and want to wear sunnies, swim etc. During the week and in the evenings glasses suit me fine.

Alas now I've got older I need multifocal glasses. Reading a newspaper or a book is quite difficult with contacts in. I'm holding what I'm reading away from me like old codgers do.

I hate having bad eyesight. Even if I had the laser surgery I'd need reading glasses now so I'll keep the money for repairs to the Landy and my dream D4 way over the horizon.
