    Australia day

I have just been on holiday to Port Stephens and it continues to dismay me that camping sites get rid of campers and caravans in place of permanent and very expensive to rent weekend dwellings

We were talking to a bloke about the slaughter of the brumbies and the closure of many parks/tracks - the sterilization of Australia

The quintessential Australian lifestyle of waltzing Matilda, horse's, swags, camping seems like it will be a thing of the past and Australia day will be celebrated on memories alone

Perhaps one day they will just have a big entry fee to the country where you can see but don't touch, experiential enjoyment may be a think of the past

Have a happy Australia day, lets hope the polititions don't forget what being Australian is all about: tolerance, acceptance and inclusion - have a good day tomorrow

I am all for creating another public holiday, later in the year would be great as there is a big gap between June and December.

Just leave Jan 26th alone though because like it or not it is still a significant date.

How about some date in late May - we could call it empire day, or maybe the 4th July, somebody celebrates on that day.

Now where's the bigger can to get this all back into.

Ok I am happy to call it invasion day then.
If they can not move on and celebrate the day as just being Australian, then it is their loss, so move on. I know plenty who fly the Australian flag with pride and dont live in the past. It should be a symbol of unity not division. Leave the date where it is. If the so called invasion never took place they would not have access to todays privelages and services.
They could have been taken over by an alternate colonising nation that could have done far more damage.

    Australia day

I agree, we shouldn't have it on the 26th - we should just pick up our handy dandy Aboriginal calendar and pick a date :s

Maybe change the 26th to National Thank You for the Wheel Day?

I'm happy to call it Invasion Day.
The Aboriginals can think themselves lucky they weren't "Invaded" by the Portuguese or Dutch.

the problem with your argument is that you are assuming they had a crap life before we got here, the aborigines had a great life style it was just a different culture to the anglo's. the simplicity of there culture mixed with yours is the problem.

Saying all that I don't think we should change the day, aborigines had wars of there own, we just had the bigger stick on the day that is life.
