I try to wave to every Landy product.
As my D2 is slightly modified I often get beaten to the wave by non D2 pilots, usually in modded Defenders.

OK, so a newbie here still trying to figure it all out...
This topic came up in another thread so I thought I'd pose the question (slightly tongue in cheek) where it might get more traffic:
What is the ettiquette of Land Rover waving?
1. Do Discoveries only wave at Discoveries, Defenders only wave at Defenders etc or are we all part of the same species and wave to each other? I kind of get the impression that Defenders are not likely to welcome a wave from a Disco.
2. What constitutes a "wave". Is it a subtle acknowledgement via a slight lift of the finger (index). Is anything more than that too geeky?
3. Does one only wave to another out on the open road, or can you do it in suburbia?
Please feel free to put me straight.
TIA.

If you drive a series and you,
1. see another series. Full handed wave
2. See a coil sprung derivitive. Lift index finger
3. See a disco. Reverse hand lift index and middle finger.
4. See a Range rover. Reverse hand raise middle finger.
5. You don't notice freelanders

Be careful how you wave, Limp Wristed ones are usually ignored
make sure it's a firm wave
I know the question is tongue-in-cheek, but the SIZE of the Land Rover wave surprised me.
I come from a family of back-roads travelers, and in days of yore that meant waving to EVERY passing car. I still do when off the main roads and "in the country." That type of wave is done by raising the right index finger while holding firmly to the wheel. If you suspect the other driver is blind you MIGHT lift the right hand momentarily from the wheel, with the index finger raised.
The Land Rover wave involves raising the right hand to a height above the centre of the window and moving the whole hand backwards and forwards, intensity determined by pleasure at seeing the other vehicle and personality of the driver (and, IMHO, gender. Female wavers, though rare, appear more enthusiastic than the male average.)

I believe that although it is not important as to how many waves are received if you believe through experience that the probability of an acknowledgement of a wave is low then a wave is less likely to be offered.
The probability of an acknowledgement or the initiation of a wave I believe to be inversely proportional to the number of the type of vehicle out on the road and also inversely proportional to the cost of the vehicle. Therefore things like the current model D3/D4 or RR/RR Sport are generally piloted by people unlikely to wave, once the numbers of the type of vehicle start to drop off or the second hand price makes them affordable for the true aficionados of the marque to enjoy the benefits of the vehicles while ignoring any unique marque type foibles then the probability of a wave starts to increase.
Very funny guys.

I'm a Rangie owner. Everyone ignores my waves (except Defender drivers who just appear shocked that a Rangie owner waved).
