got myself a cobb cooker yesterday.......

ive seen the auspig ones.......they are great.....

i just thought you had a new design and i wanted to have a look at it......




as with stainless.....my ol man used to make bbqs out of stainless steel......
he would just cut the bowls out of kitchen sinks and put legs on them......

they wouldnt rust.......but what we did find out is.....by lighting the fire in them......
they would crack after a while.......i guess the heat was too much for them......

let us know how you go with the keg.......cut in half long ways and hinged.....they make a nice little spit........

I agree Andy, Oz pig is great 4 cooking but unless there is just 2 of u & your prepared to sit pretty close, as a campfire you,ll need to constantly feed it with a lot of small wood to get any decent heat out of it:rolleyes:

My brother made a BBQ out of a keg. It is a ripper. Has converted it to gas. Cooks well as a BBQ, But excels as a webber style cooker for roasts.
Ketting a keg legitimatelly is the hard bit.

Well we will be keeping both. There is no way I will retire my camp ovens. The Cobb comes into its own when no fires are allowed and can do some very versatile meals you would never expect to make while camping. When we bought ours we bought all accessories except the frying pan.
I would like to see stackable racks for smoking though.

i suppose if you find the right diameter metal cylinder....such as a 20 litre cooking oil tin.....
you could make some sort of extension to lift everything up higher and fit a few extra racks in.......

thats an idea i might look at myself......

yes I have seen many variations of those the problem is the bulkiness of them, and if there is a total fire ban you can't use them, you can use a Cobb though any time;)

This is Mk1, Mk2 has already been in use for Xmas day and worked very well, quite easy to make as well

This is Mk1 and Mk2, Mk1 I have had for a few years and take hunting because it is compact, Mk2 has already been in use for Xmas day/Aust day and worked very well, quite easy to make as well

great designs......and very simple to make and use.....

have copied the photos for future reference........

i really like the one on the left.....that uses the top for a stand.......

We recently purchased a Cobb and love it. Before we got it I did a lot of research on forums etc. It seemed the older plastic base model has a problem with breakages if you travel off road with it.

We were turned off by this until we discovered that the new model has the plastic bit replaced with a stainless mesh. This then created another problem of losing to much heat. This is now overcome by an accessory know as a Cobb Bra.
