got myself a cobb cooker yesterday.......

......and had to try it out at home before trialing it in its element.......

i didnt used heatbeads....but got them eco friendly blocks made from cocnut shells......
only cos it was really quick and easy to light compared to heat beads......

well.....i lit it up outside.....then a couple of minutes later i brought it inside out of the wind......
and placed it on the kitchen bench......perfect work height and everything is nice and handy in the kitchen.....

cooked up a heap of lamb cutlets.....sausages......chorizos....and some pork spare ribs for dinner......
and....no.....they werent all for me.....but the left overs will become lunch at work tomorrow......

it performed really well....i was impressed with how easy it is to use.....for a simple bbq anyways.....

i was wondering if anyone had any accessories for a cobb cooker that they might want to get rid of.......
im after a roasting rack and that nonstick frypan........

What's this coconut stuff you mention, and how does it burn compared to heat beads - eg does it burn hotter and quicker?

Apparently, IIRC, it burns for about 2.5 hours. This is good for roasts, but for shorter meals like pizza, a lot goes to waste. Heat beads are good for shorter cooking times.

I've only had mine since just before Christmas (also a 2nd-hand one like DEFENDERZOOK's), so still trialling it really. I got it for a good price with all accessories except the roasting rack, which I've since bought.

One issue is it's a bit hard to regulate the heat. Sure in theory you could add/remove heat beads, but in practice this would be a bit difficult. I spose a camp oven is similar, until you get to know it.

I'm yet to try frying on it, but pizza is good and the damper and lamb roast we did last weekend was absolutely wonderful.

dunno about hotter or quicker....as i havent used heatbeads in the cobb yet to compare......
but these cocnut things are really easy to light......just hold a lighter to it for a second or two and off it goes......
it self ignites all the way through......and you can be cooking in less than 2 mins......

might try it again with heatbeads this weekend........they would have taken longer to light.....so i can allow myself more time this weekend.....

the headbeads will work out a lot cheaper......

heres what the coconut things look like.......

They are good, but we may have had a bad batch of the coconut fuel bricks. Take a lot longer than a couple of seconds to light, more like about 30 seconds. Also found cooking times can be out by about 25% longer than recommendations.
Having said that did some smoked Queen Snapper fillets tonight with Guiness Stout and Scribbly Gum wood chips. Was delicious.
Ideal for couples but a little light on for room for a family meal.

I am sure I have posted this elsewhere.....we have had our Cobb for years done way with camp ovens as they are too heavy we regularly cook roasts, cakes, pizzas, currys, all slow cook meals, bacon and eggs, scones not that good with steak though as it takes a lot of heat beads to get the plate hot enough so best cook that on the camp/picnic ground BBQ
