Still, one of the best people memories of our round Australia trip last year was the number of times we were approached and they'd say "gee that's in good nick for an old Land Rover". The look on their face when you tell them it's only 12 months old is priceless
The protruding grille dates from the first 110 when fitted with factory air, and again, not very noticeable, especially when, as is usual in Australia, there is a bullbar. You are right, the roof ribs are obvious, but I am not too sure about the vents - I have a hard time spotting them as a vehicle drives past.

Still, 23 years is well short of fifty! In fact it is less years than the 27 since the 110 was introduced, or even the 24 since my 110 was built, just to put it into perspective.

I think I notice the vents as I really miss them. I couldn't begin to work out how they could have incorporated them with the new dash but I still miss them. Funny thing is I really like the new dash and the functional A/C and heater. But I don't miss either when I jump in the Tdi.

I lent the Tdi to a friend for 3 months whilst we travelled last year. He even admitted that driving it was enjoyable and he's a Toyota die-hard. There really is something about a Land Rover that makes it special.

How has the filler changed - apart from the cap?

My '84 County had the protruding grille.

the exact same thing was said to us in Corowa last year and when I said 2003 with 50,000k's you should have seen the looks on their faces...mind you they were driving a very early Blitz that had no paint left on it and was just running

As for the fuel filler, I was referring to the cap more than anything else.

Yes, I saw that after I'd posted it. I'd typed Td5 then Googled "Td5 Defender". That pic came up and I grabbed it - but I forgot to edit the text.
