Just had a look at your setup, and it looks pretty good to me, but according to most of the people I've spoken to it wouldn't be legal as the restraining points are more than 10cm below the top of the seat back ... I guess it just depends on the fitter/engineer you deal with.

I used this bloke Home Page.

He seemed to know what he was talking about. On one hand, my setup is certified, and most importantly, I believe it's safe.

I got onto your bloke Ranga, and I'm (hopefully) getting a bar installed Monday morning, $380.

I'll take some pics for those interested.

Had my CRAB installed a couple of weeks ago. Pretty happy with the result, although I did lose a bit more space than I thought I would.

I was hoping the bar would be up closer to the cargo barrier, but he couldn't do it that way.

Ian from Auto extras sent me some pics of an install he did recently ...

Even though this option was a couple of hundred more, I probably would have used him, but my cargo barrier couldn't be moved as I'd built it in with my rear drawer system.

Anyway, I'm happy with what I've got.

Going through this conundrum for a Defender 90 in NSW

    Hi Guys,

I'm about to go through this conundrum for a Defender 90 in NSW. There now at least on the surface appear to be consistent national laws according to this site: https://www.childcarseats.com.au/legal-requirements

One of the NSW Government sites I read indicated that if the seat has a restraint strap on the back then you must fit it to an anchor point. I couldn't find quite that level of specificity from the following though: [ame]http://www.kidsafensw.org/imagesdb/wysiwyg/childrestraintsfrequentlyaskedquestionsrevision201 2_4.pdf[/ame]

I'm on the borderline of convertible booster which they've been in from 6 months and is rated up to 7 years and allowable booster age (4 years). The kids are nearly 4 and are big for their age (almost as tall as my 6 year old niece).

All this talk of engineered anchors seems relatively crazy to me given what sort of seats you can buy and the fact that they all really use the vehicle's standard seat belt as their main anchor ... its OK to have a light seat (2kg) with no additional fixing point and a heavy kid but its not ok to have a slightly heavier seat (6kg) and much lighter kid. When I studied physics, i'm sure there was something about Mass and Velocity.

However, I guess we have to comply with the law and I pick up the new Landie in a week or so and as such have to resolve my conundrum one way or the other.

I'm looking at the following product as a booster seat ... anyone have any experience with it? Safe N Sound Tourer Booster Seat

I don't have that one but have similar, my wife's opinion is that it does not feel as "safe" as a heavier child seat, but of course the heavier seat then requires the anchor strap.

Daniel (Mulgo) sorted me out with a bar above the rear door of my 110, with anchor points attached. The only downside is the strap then runs upwards through the load area from the back of the seat.

For me that was not a concern as having to install anchor points was a side effect of putting sideways bench seats in the rear (converts the 110 to an off-road passenger vehicle)

    Try contacting "Littles Child Restraints"

I've had the crab bar in the Defender and the post in my previous RRC.

    Slightly different install.

After a long and fruitless search for solution that didnt rob me of cargo space or forced me to modify my drawers and/or my cargo barrier, I got lucky and stumbled across a place that internally reinforces each of the three rear seats. Once the job is finished everything looks completely original except for a small black tie off point about 10cmbelow the top of each seat. $1200 got me three rated points with an engineers certificate. Couldnt be happier.
