Well if it did happen that way the beach wouldent get closed as he would not be the first to die on stockton beach from a accident .

Maybe if they at least made the effort to wear a seatbelt it might not appear as negligent. I may appear to be a do-gooder, but people like this give all 4wd'ers a bad name, on the beach, in the mud, wherever, it doesn't matter.
Have your fun, but wear your seat belts, and don't post video's of it for the media to pick up on!
While its not something I would be interested in doing, I don't really see any major problem. They were heading up a dune and getting some air, seemed to be plenty of room around them.
There have been numerous pics on this site of guys getting some fairly serious air - were they all tossers as well ??
As for the guy in the lake - stupid, probably but again doesn't appear to have done too much harm, other than maybe to their wallets.
Again like I said not my scene, but not really doing any harm, would have been different if they were vegetated dunes or a grassy river flat, but a few hours of wind and no-one would have known they were there.

I dont see a problem with it either, and i bet half the people posting up on how silly it was have never even driven on stockton, 40kph is a joke even fraser has 80kph speed limit and theres ALOT less beach to drive on there....
If your familiar with the beach, and you have poeple watching the other side of the dune for you, jumping over the top of a dune is not really dangerous at all except for the stress it puts on your vehicle, while its not something i would do often i have definetly done it. You have just as much risk going head on over the top of the dunes with someone in general driving as you would "Hooning" like in the video, actualy probobly less chance while hooning because you would have checked out the dune and chances are you have a mate at the top as a spotter...
Its stupid media BS like this that blows **** out of proportion that will get the beach closed.
The cameraman has never seen a strap break...
On the tray when filming it seems.

Yep exactly what i was thinking max.... and with that knot tied in the middle holding it together... i think i would have been well clear of the scene.
I must admit I do not have issue with the goings on except for do gooders using it against 4wders. If the actions were done elsewhere things might be different but Stockton is a rec area where authorities have accepted that as long as the environmental aspects are respected - such as not driving in closed off dune regeneration areas - then things are OK . There is of course the area that "RV registered" vehicles can use and these are mainly young kids on their bikes and quads and we all know they are far worse than most 4wds for wrecking the environment. The authorities know this.
Personally jumping cars over the sand dunes is not my thing mainly because of damage to the vehicle - I am surprised that RAV4 has not put the engine through the radiator - I have done that in an old landie I once owned and my brother also did it to his Nissan 720 ute on Stockton.
Given the place and the precautions - I do not see this as a problem however the do-gooders will use this against 4wds - but I do not think it will have an impact on the management of Stockton.
