That brings back some memories.......
I remember camping with friends at the 42 mile crossing, at the end of the coorong in the early '80s. I must have been about 12.
One car got bogged crossing the dunes to the beach side, so we snatched them out with a ute. No snatch strap, just an old rope with a big knot in the middle.
I stood on the back of the tray as the ute launched. The rope snapped and catapulted the great big knot straight into my "joy department".
Major ouchies, but at least the swelling was impressive:angel:
Well, I gotta admit, I did just this ... ONCE ... and once only. Driving a Daihatsu F20 ... hit the dune fast, up we go ... oh ****, there's no run-off on the back of the dune, it just dropped off ... and so did we. Landed just like this RR. Overhead console let loose (along with the CB Radio), tool box in the back left a rather large impression in the dash board, and the CB & console took out the side of my face/brow ... ouch. F20 fared much better than I ...
... lesson learned. Everything strapped in, in the back. No more super fast dune approaches ... grew up real quick that day (some 20yrs ago mind you).
Kev..
Yep. Very light BWA alloys. They suited to RR.
Here's a set on my old '83.

I'm quite surprised by the venom in some of the comments on this thread bagging out those blokes making gooses of themselves at Stockton. There are even comments that deride the persons nationality, mind you they are wrong the guys heritage is pacific Islander even though he has a accent.
Though does it really matter where anyone comes from?
I have read plenty of trip reports on here with pics and Utube footage that wouldn't be alot less controversial if the public got hold of them through a Newspaper etc. yet I don't remember anyone complaining about how irresponsible our Aulro members behaviour is, or how damaging that kind of behaviour is if the public saw how us Aulro members spend our weekends in the bush digging ruts three feet deep on steep wet fire trails trying to get up them or at the beach charging up sandhills ourselves while filming it.
Might be a bad case of pot kettle black.
Regards,
Terry
OK. Read the posts and seen the vid. Yup pretty stupid and probably bylaws broken. We have idiots like that here too and they make it very difficult.
Guy is PI, but not neccessarily kiwi. The Pacific is a big place you know. And he is wearing his shirt on his head, not his undies.
