I assumed at the time that the label referred to the fact that with difflocks front and back, only one wheel needed traction to keep going. So all of the wheels were capable of driving the vehicle by themselves.
Which is an example of the variable use of the term - according to Wikipedia, the term All Wheel Drive is most often used for "crossover" types such as the Ford Territory.
There is simply no standard useage of the terms.
Dave - while FWD usually means "four wheel drive" it is also the name of a US truch manufacturer, where it stands for "Four Wheel Drive" - again showing the lack of standardisation of the terminology.
