Only time the computer will recognise the GPS is when its in factory mode when I pull the SD card out and run with the Navman PC software.

Works a treat with Ozi picks up all the satelites and shows me my location, I would just like to have both programs.

Iam currently updating my windows drivers so will see how that goes, I just like the layout and user frendly functions of Memory Map and seems a little less cultered on the screen.
If Ive got this right you have:
    - Windows 7 PC running Memory Map - all ok.
    - Navman running Memory Map that wont see the GPS. Is MM installed on the Navman or running off an SD card?

Where does ActiveSync come into it? All files can be transferred directly via USB from PC to Navman.

Ive never used a Navman so cant really assist much there, others on here do though so help shouldnt be far away. However, if its a CE device then it will be looking for a GPS device (Navman internal GPS presumably) on a serial port - If memory serves me correctly you can you configure that within CE, clearly Navman settings will need to be the same as those in CE.

MM and Ozi as well as Miopocket all installed on SD card as I dont wont to install anything on flash drive till out of warranty.(All these were directly coped to sd card in PC not on sd card through GPS)

It wont reconise it while Miopocket is running but will when I reset it but goes into Navman mode so MM on pc still wont reconise it.

I can also get the PC to reconise it between Navman mode and MioPocket mode and in device manager sees it as a Windows Mobile ?.But when I run Windows Mobile device Center It wont find it.

I cannot even change the GSP setings on MM on the Navman but I think I will have to purchase a licence agreement to activate it as when I go to MM on the GPS an error pops up No Licence for this GPS (words to that effect).

Google has given me alot of info and I tried to change the setting that you gave me in the previous post but without the PC connecting with the GPS and wont work.

I was hoping that Active Sync may work so I can have whats on the screen of the GPS also on the screen of the PC and when I did a little googling a found out that Windows Mobile Device Center was the upgraded program for windows 7.

Anyway will persever its just strange that Ozi has no problem finding all satelites but MM wont. Will try what ou posted above also Cheers.

    ...

This is not what ActiveSync was for. Its an old way of keeping a folder(s) on a CE device in sync with a folder(s) on your PC. It does NOT screen share.

This is all very well documented on the Memory Map website. I know because I've just done a similar install on a Chinese GPS.

If you are running on SD Card you have no real choice but to follow the instructions to the letter!

Frequently Asked Questions :: How to self assemble an SD card for use in a GPS

How to self assemble an SD card for use in a compatible device

Download an appropriate software build from the downloads page

Open the downloaded zip folder and copy the file(s) to the root of the SD card (i.e. for the Holux build, this means copying the App folder to the SD card)

Create a Maps folder and copy some maps into it:

    • Maps may be copied directly from a DVD or
    • from the c:/Maps folder on your PC hard drive.
    • Otherwise and best for small SD cards, is to use the "send Map" and "Send partial Map" commands under the Mobile Device menu on the PC version of Memory-Map.
    • Also, maps can be downloaded to a PC and purchased from the Digital Map Shop, then copied to the SD card.

Create a folder named "userdata" on the SD card. This is the folder used for loading / saving overlay data you exchange with the PC software.

Note: on the Holux build; this folder has been defined as the wpt folder on the Holux's internal storage. This is where the Holux saves it's waypoints and allows them to be picked up by Memory-Map.

Activate the licences on the card

    • place the card in the Device and run the Memory-Map Mobile App.
    • Place the card in a card reader on the PC and open the PC software.
    • select Help > Licence management and sign into your user account.
    • select the SD card button
    • select a resource by clicking on it once so it is highlighted in blue
    • select Activate
    • Repeat for all required resources.

    Note:
If your maps are in the older format (sold up to about end 2008) you may need to chop them into bite sized pieces of under 400MB. As a guide (but not as a rule), to determine which format you have, look at the accompanying serial number in the DVD box. If it is 16 digits containing letters and numbers, it is the old format. The new serial numbers are 12 digits of just numbers. See this article for some guidance on how to chop up large maps.
Activating the card is the essential step. Don't try to "work around", because you'll just waste your time. I ended up having to buy an external reader because the Virtualisation software I'm using won't allow access to the sd card reader. I tried every trick possible to get around activating the card, and it just doesn't work.

You need to make sure you active the "GPS Features" on the card or you won't be able to access the gps even if you have the port settings correct.

The Memory-Map software is free if you are using their branded maps. The AusTopo250 maps are free so have a play with them to get a feel for the app.

    hope this helps...

    cheers
    Paul

Have been installing and running it as per instuctions but when I click on SD card it says 'This card is not setup for licence managment please put card back in mobile device and run program then move card back in Pc'.

Ive tried the above many times with no success.

Which App did you install on your chinese GPS?

The navman is running WINDOWS CE 6.0 and I know it says its not compatible for it but Ive unlocked it abd using Ozi and Mio cannot see why this would't work.

So I cannot Activate the "GPS Features" cause the bloody card wont Activate.

If your already have Miopocket running on your Navman then have a look at Noni GPSPlot

An trial version comes with Miopocket so it should already be installed. It is similar in concept to Ozi and Memory Map ie moving maps. I use it on my Navman, it has all the functionality I need but whether it is as better or not than Ozi or MM I can't say.

Licensed version is by way of a donation ie pay pretty much what you like - I paid about $15.

Instructions to get it to recognise your GPS in the Navman are in the tutorial on that site.

I used the Hema Navigator package.

Are you using Help > License Management > SD Card to activate with the SD Card inserted into the PC? Is there some kind of error or message you get?

Sounds like it could a problem with the install on the card.

Does the SD Card have a folder Memory-Map-License at the root level?
