Has any one tried one of these?

    Bad Elf GPS for iPadiPodiPhone

You can get them on eBay for around $80. Just wondering if any one has one or knows about them.

    Cheers.

No, haven't seen hat one before. I bought one of the GNS versions that connects via Bluetooth. It works great and isn't stuck in the ipad like that one is. What happens when you need to charge the ipad while using the GPS? Mine just stays stuck inside the windscreen and turns on and off with the ignition.

If you needed a portable version though, I can see that working well.

Edit, just read the device can be charged while you are using it. My bad...
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

AND spend only half what it costs for the receiver itself?

They are excellent, I use it on an iPad mini (in aircraft mode GPS off) with ozrunways when I am flying. The Bad ELF GPS Pro allows multiple iPads to use a single receiver. Also doubles as a data logger everyone on board can use it via bluetooth, but double the price about $180.
Far more accurate and faster than the cheapy gps you will find in a lot of phone systems...

While this option costs a bit more you might consider an inReach satellite communicator. It will connect by Bluetooth to an Android or iOS (Apple) device to provide GPS.

It also allows sending and receiving of SMS via Satellite and has satellite based emergency contact systems etc etc. Look it up on a search engine. You can even update Facebook from the middle of the Simpson (if you wanted to). I have one and it works well. There is a new model that has more functions than mine. They are about half the price of a satellite phone and can be a life saver.
