    HTC diamond GPS software

    Hi folks

I just had a necessary update of my mobile phone and the only GPS PDA phone I could get outside of Sydney is the HTC Diamond. The phone has an internal GPS chip but it can only be used in standard form online, due to Telstra not uploading any software whatsoever onto the unit. (yes they're good aren't they)

    My needs are simple

    OziexplorerCE for offroad use

some form of turn by turn on road navigational software that can be installed and not require to be online to utilise the GPS. (don't care what brand as long it works and there is no ongoing costs associated in using it on a daily basis).

Can anyone offer any assistance uploading these programmes to this device?

    Can be done.

    1. Download Oziexplorer CE The Official OziExplorer Web Site - GPS Mapping Software for Magellan, Garmin, Lowrance, Eagle, MLR Receivers .

    2. Install.

    3. Register.

    4. Get a MicroSD memory card (don't know if yours takes SHDC, but if it does, get one more than 4Gb, if not 2Gb or less.)

    5. Get maps, such as Hema's Raster set.

Then the offroad bit is done.

As for autorouting; CoPilot, Destinator, Route66. Options here:

    Software: Home - eXpansys Australia

    just buy and install.

No ongoing costs apart from map upgrade.

I've done all this on my i-Mate 9502 which is very similar.

Mine came preloaded with TomTom 7, it's a dodgy import though rather than the Telstra one so is using different firmware, and i had to add in the Australian maps myself.

Presume TomTom should be available for purchase for the Telstra ones as an add on though.

No SD card is going to limit you a bit.

I've just done this on an Imate 9502 as well. CoPilot 7 comes on its own 2g card, I guess you could copy that over. Doesn't leave much room for other maps. All of the detailed NSW toppos are 7g.

Not ideal, but not a disaster. You can still have quite a few maps if you choose carefully, and if you move around change them.

You can just copy the contents of the SD card onto the internal storage with a pc card reader.

The diamond sees its internal storage just the same as an SD card so anything that works from SD will work from internal.
