    Polares NV 618

    Hi
Does anybody have any knowledge of this product.
    www.polares.com.au

It appears to be able to do much the same as the Hema Navigator including coming with ozice, Hema maps and all the 1:250000 Australian topo maps as well as standard point to point nav. However the list price they have quoted me is $695 as opposed to Hema Navigator at around $900
    Cheers
    Mike

Correct. It is a good buy. Same size screen and resolution.

Polares aren't very good at marketing though, hence it's not well known.

    They can't spell either

"All 55 Hema Australia 4WD Map and Rigional Maps"

One difference I see is that it doesn't come with Memory Map maps which the Hema Navigator does.

If you don't own the desktop version of MM the CE version is of very little use. And if you own the desktop version you get the CE version for free.

    Actually, Hema reckon

"A special version of Memory-Map’s Pocket Navigator has been pre-installed on each unit during manufacture together with all the Hema maps ready to use."

So it's far from being of very little use.

I know what they did. Those same maps are preinstalled with OziCE, and I don't see anything MM can do that OziCE can't -- and there is stuff OziCE can do that MM cannot.

Hence my contention that MM adds little value unless you own the desktop version.

And you're right, Polares can't spell or market, but they do make a decent product.
