I have a Garmin GPS. Last week I went into the history where it stores klm run, av speed, moving average speed and max speed. Imagine my delight or horror to find at some time it recorded 345kph! Maybe it recorded this figure if it was dropped when we moved it from car to car. So do not believe all you see.

Sometimes they flip out as you are moving (or even stationary). So one minute it will be where you are and next it says you are x kms away and then reverts back. As you have noticed it will then read a crazy highest speed.

Not terribly common but I've had it happen to me more than once.

Unless of course you lent it to a pilot at some stage

I have on my turn by turn gps a reading of about 800 km/h. Hoever that is because got turned on in my backpack on the flight to adelaide and recorded part of the trip

Sometimes they get jumps like that when restarting a long way from where they were last turned on.
