    Which size GPS

I've been having a look on eBay at the cheap generic GPS's with a view to getting one with WinCE and putting Ozi on it.

Question is - which size screen is best - there's 3.5", 4.3", 5", 7" and probably some others I've forgotten.

Without wanting to sound like a plastic surgeon, has anybody got one thats just the right size, or is it a case of those with small ones want bigger, and those with large ones want smaller?

Screen readability is a function of size and resolution. The size you choose is personal preference, but a 4.3" screen is a good size for in-car use. However, an iPaq 312 at 800x480 pixels looks much better running Ozi than something else running the usual resolution of 480x272.

Thanks - I hadn't considered the resolution aspect.
Back to evilbay to have another look....

Anyone running one of the bigger screens - a 5" or 7"

I like 4.3" and consider it the "right size" because any smaller and it's difficult to see all the info; any bigger and it takes up too much real estate.

I've got an ebay gps with a 4.3" screen and I run OziCE on it as well as the iGo street maps and for me when bush, the 1:25000 maps are perfect but the 1:50000 maps I have, I found the track names a little hard to read when the gps is mounted on the screen. For me the 4.3" screen is good, I wouldn't go smaller. If I went larger I might be inclined to go the laptop way.

A 7" screen would be useful, especially if your using the latest ozex which will show simultaniously the map, plus a variety of extra info bars.

Just a question, will a larger screen (like 7" as opposed to 4.5") show larger text, or just more of the map?

neither really, it depends on the resolution of the screen.
A high resolution shows images sharper but smaller so with a abigger screen and hi res brings it back to normal if that makes any sence?

if you have a PC right click on the screen select properties then settings tab.
Slide the resolution bar back and forth you'll see what I mean.

Basically if you want hi resolution you need a bigger screen
Saying that my 8" i run at 800x600 so the buttons are big enough to press with my finger

I understand the issue as it relates to pc's, but not sure wether GPS units had the ability to change resolutions, or if the more modern and larger screen units were running a different res from previous smaller models.

You could always just get a text-only unit.
