Have you got any maps on? It should have at least defaulted to the World map that comes with Ozi.
Eliminate that, & then its isolated to the map conversion.

G'day all
i have been trying to get a map of lederderg state forest running on my gps that i got off ranga but could not do so.
i have converted it with the program that ozi offers for OziCE and i have marked it in setting so it can find the map BUT when im in the area it loads the map but its a blank screen and its tracking where i go with nothing on there. any help would be great. im pretty sure the map in the gps is jpg when it loads a blank screen.

Thanks Max
ahhhh with regards to the default map it if it dosent load my map that i have converted it either stays a blank screen and still tracks where i go OR it comes on with a default map of Vic called a vic state map. where do you get rid of the default map??? is it in settings???
Bit hard without knowing what unit it is, but if its Ozi its windows based, which means you should be able to manually explore the map folders. Make sure the map & its corresponding .map file are in the same folder. Then in In OZi you need to point to those map folders within the settings. In Ozi CE there are six to choose, from memory.
After that, the only limitation is how many files windows will recognise in a folder. (hangover from dos days). Its something like 2000 files per folder.

Max P
PS Don;t get rid of the default map, leave say australia or the world there. If you don't have a detailed map for your location the default will load and you know why. With a blank screen you don't! Ozi normally defaults to the most detailed map it can find for your location.

oziCE doesnt support JPG maps. you need to have them in ozf2 format.
there is a converting tool on the ozi website which from memory is free.
jpg maps generally dont have calibration data in them so you will then need to make a calibration map dohicky by loading the ozf map into ozi calibrating it then copying the calibration file and map to the same place on the GPS and then telling oziCE where to find it.

From the OziCE web site
Luckily my PDA can use the ECW format as converting 30+gig of maps would be a bit tedious.Map Image formats that OziExplorerCE can use are -
- OziExplorer formats (ozf2, ozfx3) - This is the most efficient format for use on a PDA. Most maps can be converted to this format using Img2Ozf (see below).
- ECW format (only on PDA's with ARM cpu's)
- The image formats jpg, png and bmp are also supported but are fully loaded into memory so the images must be small and only 8bit and 24bit color formats are supported.

That's the thing I have used the coverter that ozi offers and after that I copied both converted files into a folder on my sd cards where all the other maps are then in setting I ticked the box so ozi ce knows where to look for the map. Once loaded I just get a white screen and the moving map feature still works on the blank screen.
Before all this though just before using the ozice converter I have to set points on the map before it let's me do the converting. What are you supposed to put in the calibration points?
the grid reference of known locations like a spot height or a road junction.
the more accurately and the more of the reference points the more accurate the conversion.
