Question Gearbox To Motor Top Mounting Bolts

I'm having trouble removing the old 186 motor, Just wanting to know what's the easiest way to get to the top gearbox engine bolts, does the gearbox have to come out with the engine or is there a simpler way to get the motor out.

    Cheers Chris

If you have removed the gearbox cover inside the cab, then you should be able to get a socket straight on them. If you are just trying to get them from underneath, then you will be struggling. Pulled an engine today from a series II and didn't have any issues.

I would not recommend pulling the gbox and engine out together unless you have the body off and have the right equipment as they are very heavy together.
Do what bacicat2000 said to get to the other bolts.

Thanks bacicat and Landy Smurf, I was looking at getting them for underneath and for sweat tears and scraped knuckles there was no way I could get to those top bolts, It's the only thing stopping me from lifting the motor out now.

A 1956 107 ute cab called Bruce, I started a tread on it in the series 1 section.
I hope I can get the new motor in today with out to much trouble and if all goes well start him up.

Can anyone tell me what spigot bush is used in the Holden crank shaft to mate up with the rover box, I did manage to get the old one out of the 186 and when I went to purchase a new one it looked completely different, the one I removed looks like it may have been lathed out of brass and had a lip on the outer edge, where as the one I went to but had no lip and looked to have a smaller nominal bore, will post a pic up tomorrow as the part is out in the shed.

You need to get the standard Holden bush machined out to suit the Land Rover spigot shaft (7/8" .875" i think), however the shaft does not extend very far into the bush.
The better option is to get a longer bush machined up from sintered bronze. No doubt this option is the more expensive one, unless you have a lathe of your own or someone who can do it for you!

    Cheers, Mick.
