Thread: A Couple of Steps Forward...

My Ancient Mariner inspired starter motor (Start - "th one in three" key strokes) decided to just whir. It no longer bothers to engage the throw-out bearing. So the engine is not being turned over. Just a nice little whirr.

I put in the new cylindrical fuel pump, hooked up all new fuel lines. Bent the lines and put double flared joints on them. I installed brand new auto electrical wire and I even put a switch on the circuit. I can now have the ignition on and choose whether or not to have the fuel pump chugging away.

I put in the new electronic distributor. Of course this meant that I had to fabricate a new accelerator cable mounting bracket because the old one was too close to the engine. This caused the new, wider distributor not to fit between the engine and the old accelerator bracket.

I even have a brand new timing light to get the timing right.

I just cannot get the vehicle started because the starter motor decided it can only be intermittent for so long. Well it has been giving me notice for quite some time that things were not well with it - so it has turned up its toes. Its metabolic processes have ceased to function - it is a dead parrot starter motor.

Maybe the starter motor is just "resting" because I have done so much work on the Land Rover lately?

I would just get out the crank handle myself but .... its a Holden.
