Is it hard to reregister a series with a holden engine in victoria?

It has a holden engine and it has johnston holden engine conversion where it modified the front cross member to fit the radiator.

Has it been previously registered with the Holden engine ?
Do you have it's last registration number, if so you could check on VicRoads database to see if the engine number matches. Otherwise you are up for a long wait on the phone to get through to them........

If the engine number matches their database then easy to get registered as they assume it was 'engineered' at the time of registration.

If it doesn't in may need to be 'engineered' which will add to the expense.

Engine number located here between the dizzy and the fuel pump, above the right hand side engine mount.
    Don't mention the "H" word!
Just get a roadworthy and take it in for rego. and hopefully it will go through.

    Cheers, Mick.

Mick, do you know where I can get info on the hP 179? I've looked all over the net and can find general historic stuff but nothing any more detailed. I'm looking for something like a Haynes or similar.
    Cheers,

Dark, the "red" motor came out in 1963 and was 149ci capacity, then in 1964 a larger capacity (or "higher performance") engine was introduced as well.
The little motor (149ci) did not have anything cast onto the block, but the larger motor had HP.
The "HP" block is just the first of the 179ci red motors that was introduced and they came out in the EH, at first they were only available coupled to the automatic transmission. They were called "HP" because they were a higher performance engine than the 149ci.
They had/have "HP" cast on the left side front of the block and later in production (late 1964) they had 179 cast there. After this all the other straight six red, blue, and black motors had their respective cubic capacities cast on the engine block in imperial, then in later years in metric.
Some will try and tell you they are a performance engine but it is not correct. There was an EH S4 built up for racing (Bathurst etc) but that was nothing to do with the HP block. I don't think there were any engine performance improvements/modifications, just a larger fuel tank, tool kit, manual gearbox upgrade etc.
Norm Beechey raced an EH S4 back in the day.
Some will tell you that the HP had/has a forged crank, and yes they do, but so did the grey motor and every other red motor up until early/mid 1967, after this the manufacturing process changed.
    Hope this helps.

    Cheers, Mick.
