There are endless threads here on this topic...... I have just fitted the Contis to my D3 (18 inch rims) and am very happy, but have not had them very long.

D3/D4 doesn't matter, the arguments levelled in these threads apply as you have chosen the 18 inch rims.... for me, the conti's are the go

A very popular topic, if you search through this forum there is lots of commentary regarding 18 inch tyres for D3's and D4's. As you have until May you have plenty of time.

In addition to the ones you mentioned the other ATR tyres that from my recollection appear to be made in the same size at the OEM are;

Pirrelli Scorpion ATR;

Goodyear make a Geolander (i think) in the right size;

Cooper also make an 18 inch ATR slightly bigger but as I understand it still within the legal limits.

There are also some MTZ tyres discussed if these interest you.

Goodyear also make a Silent Armour All Terrain in 265 x 60 x 18 which is
10mm wider & 15mm bigger in diameter.
These tyres should be legal in all states.
They have a 109 load rating which I believe is with in D3 specs.

I had the Conti's fitted to my White D4 when i picked it up first week in Feb.

I haven't done anything extreme so to speak as yet but been to stockton beach and for a cruise from the wombeyon caves to the Jenolen caves and they are great tyres as far as i can tell. A small amount of road noise but i can live with that.

I've had my R18's on for 15,000k. Plenty of off road work, very happy with them.

As with John H, I am interested to know more about the 19" Pirelli's. Is the tread much more agressive than the standard 19" tyre fitted? Keen to hear some feedback

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to check out numerous tires, tread patterns etc and one of the things that looks interesting about the Pirelli Scorpion ATR's is, and this sounds counter intuitive but the tread does not look that aggressive for an ATR.

IMHO it would then be reasonable to assume that they are relatively quiet on road (for a ATR) but would probably suffer slightly off road verse some of the more aggressive ATR tread patterns. This is purely speculation based on no fact or personal experience.

However as the majority of my driving is on road, with the occasional off road foray they could be a good compromise.

Again supposition and assumption based only on (a possibly flawed) logic.
