Air Intake Temp - after driving at 90kph for 15 min = 3 degrees above ambient on dash.
Water Temp - driving as above = 88 degrees c.
This with no load ambient per dash about 28c

This all sounds reasonable

I was intrigued by the reported temperatures for the intake air temperature. I seem to have a big spread between city and highway driving readings, and I wondered if that was normal. My LR3 HSE has the 4.4 petrol V8.

Highway @ 110 kph
Outside air temp per the Land Rover display +18C
Inlet air temp per the Scan Gauge ~+21 or so.

City @ 60 kph
Outside air temp per the Land Rover display +18C
Inlet air temp per the Scan Gauge ~+30C

I installed my Scan Gauge II about Christmas time, (set it on top of the steering column as below), and have wondered if I have an inlet temperature sensor concern or if the spread is normal. I am also starting to wonder just where the inlet temperature sensor is located.

I assume that the sensor is located somewhere downstream of the air filter, so the question is where is the somewhere?

The air filter is I assume, in the "box" at the right front of the engine compartment, and that to replace the filter, one has to remove 7 or so screws, undo a "hose clamp" and then lift off that black plastic rectangular lid?

Engine water temperatures run from about +85C to +95C depending upon the day and engine loading. Average temperatures run about 91C, (195F), a bit higher than you are reporting, however Land Rover may supply "hotter" thermostats here in Canada than you normally do in Oz.

I recall when Ford sent F150 ( in kits ) from Canada to Brisbane
for assembly . The vehicles overheated easily due to small radiators.
This was back in the eighties( with one year warranty ) , and the
Company hoped the vehicle was out of warranty before problems.
Folk here put larger rads and altered thermos in , to cope with the
climate. There days they're imported assembled and upto spec.

95c does sound hot for around town , but then it's only an electronic
reading.........

I can believe Canada Spec vehicles would overheat in Oz, (but you would be warm in July and the defroster would work.)

We used to have what we called Summer and Winter thermostats - still do sort of. The idea was that in summer, we would install what we called the 185F (85C) thermostat and run water in the cooling system; then for winter, remove the 185 and install a 195F (90C) and pour in antifreeze, a 50/50 mixture of water and glycol.

Now for the most part, our vehicles all use the 195F thermostat as all season antifreeze is pretty much standard in the cooling system and the pressure systems work well along with the expansion/overflow tanks.

GM, Ford, and Chrysler still have a North and South spec sort of - bigger heaters, smaller rads and air conditioners, light tint glass, that sort of thing for vehicles shipped to deemed cold areas; for the south areas, small heaters, big AC and dark tinted glass.

Land Rover and the like have pretty much only one North America spec.

The temperature number bothering me was the inlet air temperature for around town. To me, it seemed that the 10C spread seemed just too much - wondered if I had a sensor problem or something?

Nothing to worry about, just heat soak from a slow moving vehicle heating the engine bay up...

As for water temp, 88-95 is quite normal in stop go travelling.
