Thread: does anyone drive a manual d3?

This is a question that will elucidate recommendations based on what people have bought and not necessarily what they have tested.

I have tested both to a small extent. Some years ago, when the chance came to buy a manual D3, I jumped at it and am still very pleased with my decision.

The answer in your case will depend on what you are used to driving and what your future plans are.

I suspect if a manual D3 is the only one that fits your budget you will be very happy with it.

I was for a long time of the old school that a 4x4 should be manual, I have now changed my mind, an automatic with a command shift option 3 will let you do things on sand and on hills that are close to impossible with a manual. The terrain response also in my understanding works much more effectively with the automatic and believe me the terrain response if properly selected is awesome.

My preference is now definitely for an auto, but I dont think you would regret the manual either if thats what you can afford.

Bet they don't sell many of them.

Are the manual ones all base spec (coil springs not air) ?

I'm sure all the fancy push button gee-wizzery was designed to work with an auto box.

In Australia the manuals were all "S" spec. 5 seats, coil springs, no TR.

yes it is an s model, they tell me they specked it up to near hse with suspension etc.

I think that you are right that they didn't sell many in Oz (or UK). However, all 7 seater versions were air sprung, with terrain assist.

I have seen some SE and HSE manuals in the UK, but not many.

This, in no way means that the manual is a less-effective box.

I have driven 2 manual versions, Both being the "S" Spec in Aus. Thats how many we have sold through work....since 2005....
The clutch is light & the vehicle is nice to drive.

If a manual is what you desire, then as Pete has said they are no less effective than the Auto version.
Its a personal thing i guess.
