Getting my new Disco 4 and need help

    Hi All,

New to the forum and have purchased our first Discovery. We could only afford the base model with 7 seat pack, rear diff lock, side steps, Bi-Xenon lights, window tint and rear air con. We have 4 children and need the 3rd row of seats.

Picking it up Wednesday and need some help. Can someone please advise where to get the best "normal" tow hitch to suit the D4 so we can pull our Jayco Eagle camper?

We would need to purchase online or in Mackay or Townsville.

Not sure if I should get the land rover genuine part or not.

    Thanks

    Hi and welcome!

Most people here run the excellent Mitchell Bros hitch over the LR part.

Welcome to Mitchell Bros - 4x4 & more - Sydney, New South Wales Australia

The Eagle is +750kg so don't forget a trailer brake system too.

    Hi LeaRoy,

You should get the LR tow hitch from your dealer as part of the vehicle equipment. There should not be anything to stop you hitching your Jayco up. All the wiring is there and connected. If you don't get everything, ask the question. Some other detail in the FAQ's .

Note, it still looks pretty average, but is better than the version supplied with the D3 ( looked like a plough )

You did say 'normal' tow hitch. If you have an offroad coupling on your Jayco, the LR supplied tow hitch will not help you, and the Mitchell Bros hitch is the weapon of choice.

    G'day and Welcome

I too have a Jayco Eagle, an 09 model with LED lights. I'm not sure about the D4 but if its the same as the D3, then you will need to organise the LED shunt (just do a search on 'shunt') or get your dealer to redo the wiring harness which my dealer quoted at $750. I ended up going the shunt from this mob
    www.linearelectronicdesign.com

and will be wiring in the EBC this week sometime.

Our Eagle came with the Treg hitch and from my limited testing (only got the D3 this week and so far too lazy to take the camper out of the garage and hook it up) I think that the treg hitch on the factory bar (in place of the tow ball) should do nicely.

I have to get off my arse and get this organised soon as we are off to Shark Bay in 3 weeks. Can I say arse on this forum???

    Time will tell...

LeaRoy meant to say the new D4 hitch that comes with the vehicle is better than the D3 hitch which hung too low, but in my opinion it is still not as good as the Mitchell Bros hitch. The one advantage of the standard D4 hitch is that it is easily removeable.

Hi LeaRoy, I have two different trailers and a large boat and have found that the D4 standard hitch is perfect.
Had the D3 before the D4 and found that the hitch on it was too low. I ended up getting a Mitchell Bros hitch.
For what its worth, have a play with the standard hitch before wasting money on another.
    Cheers, Craig

    Disco4se,

Did you get the hitch with the car, because I may being told I have to pay $300.00 for it. Maybe it is only included in the SE models and up.

My Eagle is a 2006 model that does not have LED lights and has a normal ball receiver on it.

Thanks to all the others for advice.

Hi LeaRoy, yes the hitch came with the vehicle. I know that it is the standard hitch

    Craig,

Maybe my terminology is not correct. According to the dealer and brochure, the "Towing tounge is an accessory"
