    Turbo charging?

I've just posted in the Parking Lot about the 2011 RR,, and it talks about

"The LR-TDV8 4.4-litre with parallel sequential turbocharging"

    Does the D4 have this?
    (the parallel sequential bit)

    I read the wiki page,,

Does my post refer to a twin turbo setup, off one bank?

    I like pics

The 3.0 D4 has two turbos.

However, "parallel sequential twin turbos" is marketing rubbish and a contradiction in terms.

If the turbos operate at different times, as is the case with the D4, then they are sequential not parallel.

Given they are different they are not twin.

So, it's really "sequential turbos" but that doesn't sound as cool.

I don't know if the RR is set up this way but attached is an extract from a Honeywell site where they were talking about winning an award for a parallel sequential turbocharging set up.

"The development of the new dual-stage turbo system with PSA began in 2003. Rather than opting for a serial sequential turbocharging configuration, where a smaller high-pressure turbo works in advance of a much larger turbo, PSA and Honeywell selected for this engine platform the parallel sequential arrangement, where two small turbos work side by side at high rpm but only one turbo delivers the torque at low rpm".

You'd have to look into it more but it sounds like the turbos act in parallel at high revs and sequentially at low. How do they achieve this? Dunno? Variable veins on only one of them maybe?

I think the D4 is different.....one turbo feeds the other....they are not configured side by side. I don't know what happens to the performance of the first turbo on the D4 at high revs....as in, does it still supply decent boost or does it just coast.

That probably just confuses the issue more....LOL
