    At new, I had the following: -
    • Rear windows came straight back down when put up.
    • No sound through speakers.
    These are the only faults after travelling 21,000Klm's.
    The Q093 patch fixed the window problem.
    The speaker problem was a faulty CD player. Since ULR replaced it, it has been fine.

    Cheers, Craig

    Celtoid,

    I get the same however as it only comes on when going quite slow I figured it was for those times when you are negotiating tricking rock sections etc and might need to know which direction the wheels are pointing etc.

    One you get above a certain speed (5- 10 km i am guessing) it probably thinks you are out of the slow stuff and the information is no longer relevant and goes away.

    That is my rough diagnosis anyway, call me an optimist.

    My list is;

    1. Overheating transmission message when doing long steep off road trip - went away and has caused no further problems;
    2. Leaking coolant hose - fixed under warranty;
    3. intermittent squealing when applying the handbrake - EPB needs adjusting and will be done at service next week.

    Otherwise all good.

    regards,

    George

    Thankfully I've had bugger all (he says with finger's crossed!)
    Only the rear drivers side window going down immediately after being closed. Easily fixed myself following the owner's manual calibration procedure. Fixed it first go!

    Thats not actually a problem

    My D2 I can honestly say had not a thing wrong when I bought it new...quiet as a mouse, no rattles no nothing of any sort to complain about. 160,000k later and I still love it, but even I one day will be tempted to the D4 just from the creature comfort and new smell point of view.

    My D4 has been such a joy to drive I kind of forget the few glitches there have been along the way.

    The electronic parking brake had an attack of nerves and set off repeated alarms one morning about failure to operate, then it jammed on and wouldn't release at all until I shut everything down for a minute or so. It got carted away on a truck that day and came back fixed a few days later. No real problems since then. "Bouncing" left rear window fixed at the same time with the software upgrade.

    Recently discovered that there should have been a tow hitch included with the car that wasn't, but this has now been supplied plus the carrier fitted in the rear storage compartment.

    Headlight problems have been the subject of much discussion elsewhere, so won't repeat here.

    The one thing that doesn't seem to get much of a mention is the audio controls on the steering wheel, particularly the way they won't select the preset stations on the radio. The manual doesn't say much about how this control is meant to operate, but the smaller "Quick Start Guide" gives a clear description of a good design if it in fact worked that way. Instead of the left and right arrow buttons on the steering wheel control having the desired (and described) effect of scrolling up and down through the preset radio stations, they just initiate a "search" function looking for the next higher or lower available broadcast frequency regardless of the presets.

    To select a preset station you have to take your eyes off the road and your hand off the wheel to press numbered buttons on the central fascia - not very good. The "Mode" button on the steering wheel control has the unexpected effect of jumping up one preset station, instead of switching from radio to CD or Aux. Bizarre. Even more bizarre was LR's response to the local dealer when this was raised with them via a tech report: LR said they would re-write the Quick Start Guide to conform with the peculiar way this control currently works, rather than fixing the way it works to conform with the intended design.

    Not having the top-line audio system also renders the telephone address book completely useless, as there is no way to access entries other than scrolling through them manually in alphabetical order. The Voice button on the steering wheel would provide a way of dialling common numbers, but I was eventually informed that this is just a dummy button on the SE with the standard stereo. To dial a number starting with "S" I have to stop the car, get the phone out, find and select the number on the phone and then transfer the call to the car so I can resume my journey. Again, not very good.

    However, these are just minor annoyances that I wish LR would fix, but I do love driving this car regardless of a few glitches.

    Beamin,

    Check out the manual release procedure in the D3/D4 FAQ, which is relatively simply, my wife managed to do it with me coaching her over the phone.

    Better than a tow truck !!

    Thanks George,

    I'll check it out next time I'm off road...which might be a while after my Fraser Trip.....refer to D4 Beach Work. Two buckled wheels and a few broken bits of bumper bar.....and booked in for a suspension/steering check.

    Still....could have been worse!

    Hi Beamin,

    I've got an SE and mine seems to do all the things that you would like yours to do. What I find frustrating is the fact that the manual...like all manufacturer's manuals, encompass a lot of specs. I thought it was tough in my Berlina and that's a local build... but the LR and my wife's Pug are impossible to figure out exactly what is fitted. Mine was an ex demo, so it does have an integreted GPS but does that mean it's got a different sound system and phone system? I thought that they all had a 9 speaker H & K (not Heckler and Koch...they make a different sound ).

    When you say carrier in the rear storage compartment, do you mean the cargo blind thingy that covers your luggage? Mine was missing too....it was sent out to me but I never use it as it squeeks and really doesn't fill the hole in the floor when you have the middle row of seats down....I expected it to act as a plug, to make the cargo bay perfectly flat!

    Sounds like you might have issues with the sound system problem thou..

    However, as you said....hard not to love driving it!!!

    Cheers,

    Kev.

    Thanks Celtoid

    Am I right in thinking that the SatNav system comes with a touch screen? I think it is the touch screen that is the key difference and allows the phone address book to be accessible and makes the voice control work. The standard audio system on the SE doesn't have the touch screen, which renders these other features inoperable or useless.

    The storage/carrier for the tow hitch is mounted in the lower cubby hole in the left side of the boot, which also give access to the tail lights. The matching cubby hole on the right side houses the jack and tool bag. I eventually found out that some D4's (including mine) were delivered without the tow hitch or storage carrier and this is a known warranty fix whenever these cars are tracked down or the owner twigs that something is missing. I was only put onto this when I was trying to figure out how to fit a rear bike carrier without having any sort of horizontal receiver to slide it into. Roof Rack World in Sydney were sure that the hitch/receiver should have come with the car and the nearby LR dealer confirmed that some had been missed at delivery. It still took a bit of sorting out for my local dealer to realise what had been left out of the car and to order in both the missing pieces (hitch + carrier), but it is now all in order.

    Cargo blind has been OK for me and filled the gap in the floor reasonably well once I found the lugs to hang it on. Floor is then flat enough to sleep on comfortably with a thin camping mattress (after a few sherbets).

    Cheers.
