We bought a 2006 D3 TDV6 SE Auto two and a half months ago. It has 80,000km on clock now and within a week of ownership we experienced a squeal from the right rear wheel AFTER release of the EPB and when moving off. It was like metal brakepads not releasing properly. The squeal would disappear after travelling for a few metres. EPB works excellently in holding the vehicle at any time. Dealer we bought the vehicle from has had it back twice - first time just "adjusted the brake" and the second time "pulled it all down and cleaned and adjusted".
The squeal returned within a week or two after the last effort. Again, it is when the EPB is released - manually by pushing the lever down not using the throttle to release. As the vehicle moves off the squeal is now not as loud as it was before and then disappears after a few metres - and it does not do this every time the EPB is released - probably one in 5 times on average of releasing and driving off.
My question is whether what we are experiencing with our EPB is what others have experienced prior to the failure of the EPB or is this just a D3 problem we "have to live with".

Perhaps the RH cable is not initially releasing fully due to either a sticky cable or sticky actuator mechanism/gearbox. If the noise is stopped when the manual release cable is pulled, the cable would seem to be OK thus the gearbox might be sticking and slow to release the cable fully.

This is a common problem and one I experienced recently to the point the EPB would not release and we need to manually release.
However once the dealer had cleaned and serviced it has been fine. The EPB somehow collects mud and dirt which impacts over time if not cleaned as serviced properly leads to the actuator ceasing up. This apparently should be part of the regular service items.
I would suggest;
1. Book it back in the dealer and get it checked again;
2. Go the FAQ section at the start of the D3/D4 Forum Channel and find the section on manual release of the EPB, copy it and leave a copy in the D3 in case you need it as I do not believe it is in the manual.
It is a pain and the noise can be a major concern however it is a relatively easy fix.

SubscriberI can't really add to the other comments. I have experienced the squeal like many others here and have had to manually release as well.
The dealer I generally use for service has a policy of adjusting the EPB mechanics at every service.
