Thread: High beam bulb change

Hi - my first post as a new 2007 SE TDV6 owner
I have been looking at bullbars and after reading a thread about this on another forum I also checked with a local specialist here in WA.

In order to replace the globe you must remove the entire headlight assembly - with an ARB bullbar (and probably others?) you need to remove the top bullbar mounting bolts and loosen the bottom bolts in order to crank the bar sufficiently out of the way to remove the assembly.

Sounds like a total PITA to me and not the sort of thing I would have expected from the ARB design team.

I am interested to know if the same problem exists for other bars eg TJM and ECB?

I was afraid that that was going to be the answer. It's not the sort of thing I would think to ask when buying a bullbar. Bad design indeed ARB.

Not with an ARB steel bullbar fitted. I can hardly get the back cover off let alone take the bulb out & the light assembly can't be completely removed. It doesn't help not knowing how they fit in though.

Any ideas?

To remove head light assembly, you need to lift up the 2 pin-bars, 3/4" inch wide flat bars basically that sit at the top of the rear corner & 2/3rds the way across the head light, the top of the bars have a 90degree bend in them & face back towards the rear of the vehicle. Lift them both up until they align with the hole & the head light will come out hopefully enough to gain access to the rear of the assembly.

You can get the headlights out by removing the light cluster then unscrewing the plastic cowling on the back of the light. It makes in just small enough to slide between the bars of the ARB bull bar. ARB think it will come out but probably tested it on one without the headlight washer. There's an idea will the headlight washer pop out from the bar? Anyone want to try that first?

I recon unscrewing the cowling might be the go. It looks like it will still be too tight with the washer removed. The top bars only needed to be 20mm higher & it wouldn't have been a problem.
I suppose it would be boring if it was easy?

As I am still in the process of deciding on a bullbar (ARB,ECB,TJM) I would appreciate hearing how you get on?
I wonder if anyone with other bars has any comments?

I too was left with the decision. But it came down to the ARB which looked the best (I thought) & could take a winch. I don't think this light bulb problem would have swayed me otherwise.

Either Mr Sniegy or Caver D3 pointed me in the right direction, guys you told me to mod the back of the light, I haven't had to replace the main globe yet but I've replaced both the indicator globe and the sidelight globe on both sides, I have an ARB bar with the headlight washers. This was a pain in the butt, but with a bit of patience I got there. There is something you have to modify with the plastic cover, I've been trying to find the post but I can't. When I put the ARB bar on I replaced both the side light and indicator globes to maximise the life, that didn't work either........ I've still had to change them.
