Thread: Demise of the Discovery???

I just got a copy of the latest Motor Sport magazine from the UK (Vol 86, Number 10). In their Road Cars section where they announce what's new there's an article by Andrew Frankel where he reckons he's recieved a news item from LR announcing a new front-wheel drive Freelander - they ditched the all-wheel aspect. He also mentions that the Range Rover sub-brand will be allowed to separate from "the mothership" (presumably LR). He reckons too that this will leave LR with the Freelander and an all-new Defender to its name, and that the Discovery is to be ditched :

"It may be that this new strategy means the end of the road for the Discovery. If my source is correct it’s expensive to make and its current customers can be directed either into Range Rovers or a forthcoming seven-seat Freelander. A pity, though – I think it’s LR’s best product."

So keep your Disco's looking new and shined up because they may become museum pieces... read "collectors items".

He also reckons that as of next year LandRovers will also be assembled in India.

All opinionated I think, the discovery has always been LR's biggest seller, why would they get rid of it....
