I've had this issue since the D4 was new, and reported it during service for them to show me another D4 with the same behaviour, so wondering about your combined experiences on this one.
When you press the remote control button for tailgate open, how far does it open:
1) Totally Open - no need to press physical tailgate button to swing it up
2) Partially Open - need to physically press tailgate button again (and hear it unlatch) before swinging it up
The reason I ask is that I was expecting #1 - so that the top section can be opened without pressing the button. On most remote boot release cars I have seen, once you press the remove, the boot pops fully open.
Cheers,
Edwin.

#2 on my D4 HSE
no land rover has a self open tail gate, why not idk, as alot more and CHEAPER cars have them??
I have no idea. I do agree that it shouldn't necessarily pop open and raise up all the way to fully open, as there might be obstructions, but I wish that once you pop it up, then you can reach for anywhere along the lower edge to lift it up, without needing to search for the button.
witch makes the 3rd button useless anyway, just program it to do sumting elce, it is usefull if connecting a traitor as you can raise/lower the car with the key,

Isn't it to unlock the tailgate without unlocking the doors so as to prevent someone else jummping into the vehicle whilst you're putting items into the back?

Agree on the unlocking the tailgate only, so wouldn't reprogram it. Also allows opening up (from a distance) for a mate so they can get something, and after they close it, it's secure without me needing to press the lock button again. (I could be wrong here). But just wish it was that little bit easier for someone not familiar with the car - they could reach anywhere along the lower edge and open it. Oh well.
