    D4 Squeaking Mirrors

Every now and again, since new, my D4 mirrors would squeak really badly when locked. After a Fraser Is trip it was quite bad and then went away for ages.

It came back a month ago or so and is now constant regardless of weather.

Has anybody else had this issue? Can you lubricate the mirrors....as in the casings that go into the locked position.....if so, how so?

    Cheers,

    Kev.

See if you can find out where it is squeeking and spay with dry lube.

Thanks mate. The urge to just spray stuff in there has obviously been quite strong but didn't want to do this without advice, as best case it could do nothing, worse case gum it all up.

Just wondered if I had a unique problem and whether you have to pull the casing apart or something like that.

    Cheers,

    Kev.

    Kev,

I had the same issue with my D4 SE mirrors for some weeks, a few months back - they'd squeak and shudder as they closed upon locking, as if they were binding somewhere. Being busy at the time I grumbled but then forgot about it - and your post has just reminded me that the problem went away some weeks/months ago, and hasn't yet come back (touch wood). So, you're not alone - but I'm afraid I cannot offer anything other than good fortune as a cure!

    Hi Jesse B & Kev,
My D4 SE mirror has the same shuddering problem, but no sqeak, and only on the drivers side.
Had LR look at it on my first service and came back un fixed.
Like you guys, I am tempted to spray some sort of lubricant in there, but afraid that I may cause a problem.
Have to have them look at it next service.
    Cheers, Craig

    Glad I'm not alone then...LOL!!!

Mine's in for it's first real service at the end of the month, I'll get them to look at it then....along with the squeeking suspension....

    Cheers,

    Kev.

    Hi Kev,
Believe it or not, mine had the squeaky suspension as well. Had to have the front drivers side shocker replaced, then the front stabilizer bar bushes. Apparently the bushes in these aren't too good, so they replace them with better ones.
No more squeaks now but still have the shuddering mirror.
    Cheers, Craig

I have sprayed WD40 to both mirrors and they are good as gold now.

MY D4 had it's 12 monthly. LR pulled the cases apart and lubed everything....all good now but I guess I'll just hose them in CRC/WD40 in the future.

    Cheers,

    Kev.

    Question

Celtoid/Disco3SE/Dorko, just wanted to know if you have found any ill effects a year+ on after spraying mirrors with WD40/CRC? Mine has been shuddering for the past few months and is now also squeaking when locking the car.

Do you think just spraying them is enough or would it be better to have dealer service them properly as per Celtoid?
    Cheers,

    Sean
