Thread: Long Range Fuel Tank Installation

i did 50,000kms with my D3 (now have D4) with Long Range Automotive 115L tank and no issues whatsoever. Very good bit of kit!

1. Never heard of any servicing issues and given where it is I doubt there would be any access restrictions.

2. The tanks are additional to, not replacement of the original. Never heard of any warranty issues and very much doubt there would be any.

3. The extra weight is really only when full. The air suspension in unaffected but IMHO the stock dampers need replacing as they aren't up to the task of controlling a Disco at GVM (touring load!) over dirt roads.

A question on the rear shockers...

I am about to get a Longranger fitted to my D4. This is in preparation for a road trip towing a big van.

If the rear shocks are marginal now with a big van and average roads they would be below marginal.

Are there any good after market shocks for the D4?

The D4 shocks are much harsher than D3 shocks over small bumps and pull the rear down very firmly with slow movements when empty so I suspect they will handle heavy loads quite well. I'm fitting D3 shocks very soon as the D4's are too harsh for my requirements but expect to temporarily refit the D4 rears for outback trips.

There are some for the D3. Don't know if they are tuned for the D4, but I expect so. I've put them in the FAQ after you asked this question.

During the week I heard mention from an installer that long range tanks fitted in the spare wheel space have to be removed temporarily if adjustment/maintenance to park brake assembly has to occur.

Anybody heard of this.

Yes the manual says ,that you have to remove the spare wheel to get to the park brake actuater.Which is above it.

Hi had my park brake actuater replaced recently and its in front of spare above diff and can be replaced from one side if need be, just a bit more messing about. So the tank should not have to be removed.
