You would need to make sure that the handhelds are upgradeable to suit the new channel separation
IC41S is wideband only i believe so cannot be reprogrammed
GME is also not reprogrammable from a quick search

You will still be able to use the radios with the new channel spacing but audio volume will be reduced when communicating with an 80 channel unit.

I have an IC440 installed in my D3 which I am happy with and it is reprogrammable I believe.

The ICOM is programmable, and I'm hoping that it can be set to the new frequencies. There's a programming cable/software available for the 41s.

CBfreq's ICOM IC-40S and IC-41S page has a programme that allows up to 80 rx/tx channels so I hope it has the right spacing!

I got an icom, had 3 of them for 8 years and sold 2 to a member here.
I keep it in my car at all times, has been dropped, thrown and driven over in mud.
They are rock solid, do not take up any room on dash etc and with remote microphone very very handy.

Thats been my experience.

Of the 2, I would pick the ICOM.

Just for giggles, do a bit of a search on WOUXUN KG-UVD1P. (here and google)

I had a GME unit for 6 years. It had a car kit. You simply screwed off the flexible arial and then screwed on the car kit wire. This then connected to the car mounted ariel but also charged the radio through the same connection. I added a handheld mike. This all worked well. I dont know how it compares to the ICOM.

I have the GME hand held. I take off the small fitted aerial and just screw on my external aerial when in the Disco. If your not talking all the time you will get many days before you have to recharge. Give Contact communications a call do a google they sell on line and offer good advice. They are very well priced.

I have purchased from Prestigecom.net.au Your Garmin GPS and Two-way cb radio shop in Australia before online and these guys appear to be very competitive and delivered within a day or two.

I have a handheld, think it is only 2w as I have only had to use it for short range comms in a convoy so far, however would be interest in the option of being able to connect to a separate aerial when in the vehicle to increase range etc.

There is an adaptor that screws on top of your hand held which allows you to connect to external aerials.
