Plenty of lenghth on mine.
Make sure the cable isn't trapped on itself or kinked. If kinked you may need a new winder.

Hi,
Was told when I picked up my MY11 D4 that the spare cable is now even longer and can hook into the spare from way out behind the vehicle. Haven't needed to try it yet. Will report back if I need to use it.
Only used the spare once in 5 1/2 years on the D3. That cable was long enough to reach the ground easily.

Thanks all for your info. Sounds like there is a problem with mine.
Had to vent my frustrations being under the vehicle in extreme heat with tyre black from a**hole to breakfast.
Cheers, Craig

Hey Craig - I think there must be an issue with yours - I had a flat (wrecked a Pirelli Scorpion - ouch $$$$) and had no issue with the length of the cable on my D4 SE. Am still searching for the perfect bottle jack tho, to replace the scissors with - found a 3 stage (Trade Torque) that gives plenty of lift, but its just too big to go under the back seats. Most others I've found do not give enough lift without using those dumb screw-out extensions (which you can't use anyway, coz the basic jack height is close to too much to get under the chassis rail without adding even more).
I ended up working out what I did wrong (with a little help from Discojools).
The cable wound right down ok when I took the spare out. Seeing as though I wasnt intending to put the spare back for a few days, I wound the cable straight back up without any tension on it.
The cable must have force on it when wound back up.
Cheers, Craig
Hi Jess B,
I have been looking for a reasonable bottle jack and have settled on this one
LARZEP BOTTLE JACK AB30421 4t - there are many options and all imported from Spain
Have a look at the Web site and you'll see a vast array of jacks with all the specs.
I've noted you are an Albany D4 owner - beautiful locale with so many destinations worthy of the beast within a few kms.
Last weekend I took delivery of my D4 down there and had ocasion to use te OEM Jack and Spare Winder on my way home. All worked fine, but the scissor jacket was definitely at its limit without any chocks underneath.
