I have just had towing electronics fitted to my L322 Rangerover and no trailer light at all. Jim
All, I towed for the first time in the D4 today. Noted the dash indicator (trailer indicator) in the instrument panel didnt flash when using the indicators; anyone else had this issue?
also I tried lights/indicators etc (on this hire camper trailer) with and without the "shunt box" (as LED lights are on the trailer) and it didnt seem to make any difference -have LR resolved the pulsing light issue that necessitated a shunt box with D3?
cheers

My D4 doesn't work yet my trailer now has 21W blinker globes although the reversing sensors are disabled. It was tested as working at the dealers with their dummy trailer lights so the globes were upgraded from 18W to 21W but still no joy.

I have a Labtronics shunt (kept it from D3), when KK connected, green trailer symbol flashes on dash with indicators, and rear sensor cuts out.
I wonder if your trailer stability has engaged.
Do you have electric brake controller, if so, does that know trailer connected
no, no trailer brakes. Dash indicators always worked on my D3 so it is a bit odd. Parking sensors did cut out though.
Maybe towing electrics not enabled?
I have a KK camper with a prodigy brake controller on a D4 and all works fine without a shunt - brakes , lights. Most trailers I have used to date work fine.
I have had hire trailers that refused to work at all. We have resolved this a number of times by switching the cable - seemed some of the cables had too little resitance?? or they were just broken. Maybe the dodgy ones are the ones that provide enough resistannce. This would probably be only fine for hire units where they often have the cables separate.
Maybe check the cable and pin connector on the trailer?
I'm going to drop by the Service Centre in Adelaide and have them test it all...will report back later today!
cheers

"The D4 is different to the D3 - dash light wont illuminate but you can be assured the car knows there is a trailer there and trailer stability assist, suspension ecu etc will all be adjusting for it".
I see. And the D4 handbook (which clearly says the trailer lights will flash when the indicators are used, as per D3) is wrong then?
"Oh, possibly".
I see.
Sigh.............................................. ........!
Oh well, have a Merry Christmas All! I'll be back in 2011 with some happy snaps of the D4 having fun (with a D3) in the Vic High Country!
The D4 doesn't need a shunt box to prevent the LED lights from 'pulsing' - the test signal now accounts for LED lights, as it has them fitted to the car itself.
However, it still needs the shunt (or some form of load) to be able to sense the trailer/caravan and activate trailer stability and cut the rear parking sensors. If your rear sensors are cutting out, then the system is probably working. The trailer icon on the dash seems to vary in reliability from car to car. I had one client's car where it never activated, a couple where it functioned as per the handbook, and mine which only flashes with the LHS indicator. But in all cases the rear sensors are cut-off, and that could only occur if the car sensed the trailer load.
As a further test, with the trailer hooked up, in low range select sand or mud/ruts mode and see if the car automatically raises to off-road height - it shouldn't.
Cheers,
Gordon
