    265 x 70 x 17 Tyre Tips

Couple of tips for those that may be considering this tyre size.

When you buy the tyres see if you can source a good second hand hand worn spare this will make fitting it in the spare wheel well much easier.

When fitting the spare into the wheel well use some dishwashing liquid on the exhaust guards & near where the tow bar clips in, this will make it easier to get in.
The dishwashing liquid dries up & does not pose a threat when you later fit the spare.

On an 09TDV6SE the tyres (with OEM rims) will clear everything except the passenger passenger side front inner guard on hard lock at on roas height where it rubs ever so slightly, worse in reverse.

Drill two small holes in inner guard liner at location closest to tyre & zip tie guard liner back to brake lines which are attached to chassis at this point.
This will pull guard liner back 25mm and there will be no more rubbing.
This way guard liner is still intact and will protect what it is supposed to protect.

I think this will also apply to 2.7 D4's.

I am not advocating you should fit these tyre as they may or may not be legal & do not want to get into that debate.

Just wanted to pass on something I have observed.

    Regards

    Chuck

    265 x 70 x 17 Tyre Tips

    Good bit of info Chuck!!
I'm tossing up whether to go for 265's when my tyres are due soon or the Llams electronic suspension kit. I need another inch or so clearance for sure.
I was up in the VIC high country on the weekend and at several creek crossings and hill decents I bottomed out - squashing the exhausts again, dinging the fuel tank, muffler and front cross member.

The high country is exactly where the D3/4 do not have enough height.
Up the back of the Thompson aired down to 20lb on 19" MTR's I was banging and scraping the exhaust.

That one inch seems to make all the difference.

    I agree re LLAMS.

    Llams suspension kit arrived

    My Llams kit arrived today!
I looked at the GOA rods for a 50mm lift or the Johnson rods from the USA for 2 1/2 ", but went for the Llams.
I thought the rods were going to be a pain changing them before and after every trip, even though it seems pretty easy.
I have a couple of weeks to fit it ready for the March long weekend up in the high country.
Should be a good place to test out the extra clearance.
